Job description

Role: Construction Officer - Electrical (substation) x 2

Location of Services: Vernon, BC

Work Assignment Overview: Act as site construction coordinator and inspector on substation interconnection projects at various locations within BC.

Estimated Work Start Date: 16-Jun-2025

Estimated Work End Date: 16-Jun-2026

Max INC Rate: $73.44/
Max T4 Rate: $60.69/

Experience and Role Accountabilities
  1. A minimum of seven (7) years of construction experience or equivalent.
  2. Inspect construction work on substations, transmission lines, and hydroelectric equipment, utilizing excellent inspection skills and understanding of construction methods to meet deadlines and comply with building and safety codes.
  3. Ensure work site safety by prioritizing safe execution and performing Safe Work Observations, with strong knowledge of safety standards and regulations to enhance BC Hydro’s safety performance.
  4. Coordinate site testing, surveying, and estimating activities, using good knowledge of engineering drawings to facilitate project progress. Be prepared to work in adverse weather conditions and at heights or underground.
  5. Support contract and work order administration by collaborating with contractors and internal teams to ensure work, materials, progress, and costs meet expectations, ensuring project implementation as planned.
  6. Serve as a subject matter expert, providing advice on complex technical issues to develop future capabilities at BC Hydro.
  7. Respond to internal and third-party construction inquiries using excellent communication skills to professionally represent BC Hydro on-site, as assigned.
Education and Skills
  1. Diploma in Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Technology from an Institute of Technology, relevant trades, apprenticeship courses, or equivalent.
  2. Training in contract law.
  3. Excellent working knowledge of safety standards and regulations such as Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Standards and WorkSafe Regulations.
  4. Advanced English skills for a professional environment, both written and spoken.
Must Have:
  • 10+ years as a certified Red Seal Electrician with utility experience.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite, including Excel.
  • Willingness to work at various remote sites throughout BC.
Nice to Have:
  • Intermediate First Aid Certification.
  • Substation construction experience.
  • Knowledge of Site Safety Coordination and Multi-Employer Workplace WorkSafe regulations.
