Job summary

Teck Resources Limited is offering a 12-month Mine Operations Co-op Student position at Highland Valley Copper in Logan Lake, BC. The role focuses on KPI tracking, data analysis, and supporting continuous improvement to enhance safety and efficiency on site.

The student will work with cross-functional teams, gain hands-on mining operations experience, and contribute to cost reductions while developing technical and safety competencies in a large-scale operation.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a post-secondary degree in Mining/Mineral Resource Engineering.
• Motivated self-starters able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Comfortable in dynamic industrial environments with diverse personnel.
• Willing to work outdoors and operate vehicles at operations.
• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

• Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle during co-op.

About Highland Valley Copper

Highland Valley Copper (HVC) Operationsis Canada’s largest open-pit copper mine and molybdenum operation. HVC produces both copper and molybdenum concentrate through autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding and flotation. Located approximately 17 kilometers west of Logan Lake and about 50 kilometers southwest of Kamloops in British Columbia, the surrounding areas of HVC have an abundant offering of outdoor experiences.

Role Overview

For this position we are specifically targeting students who have a background concentrating in Engineering. This exciting opportunity will allow students to acquire the knowledge and skills required to handle challenges that may arise at a large-scale mining operation. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting mine operations through KPI tracking, analysis, and reporting, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency and reduce costs, and collaborate with cross functional teams to improve operational performance and safety across the site.

Key Responsibilities

• Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures


• Participate in the health and safety programs of Teck to ensure that everyone on site goes home safe and healthy every day


• Assist in the tracking, analysis and reporting of Key Performance Indicators within Mine Operations


• Support the Mine Operations department in the equipment selection process, including the operational strategy creation and development of the business justification.


• Identify areas of improvement and help build out and support continuous improvement initiatives targeting improvements


• Contribute to projects sought at enhancing efficiency, reducing costs, and improving operational safety.


• Collaborate with multi-functional teams to help implement the best procedures, streamline processes, and improve efficiency.


• Expand experience working directly within the Mine Operations team on the implementation of mine plans with a focus on safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a post-secondary degree in Mining/Mineral Resource Engineering


• Motivated self-starters with the ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously


• Comfortable working in a dynamic industrial work environment with a range of engineering, technical and operational personnel


• Willingness to work outdoors and able to operate vehicles at our operations, in various weather conditions and terrain


• Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills with a capability to communicate sophisticated ideas to all levels


• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and with PowerBI


• A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for the duration of the co-op is required

Pay Range: CAD $4833 - $5592 per month

The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
