RBC Insurance seeks an Actuarial Co‑op Student to gain hands‑on experience in the life insurance arena while tackling real business challenges and receiving structured leadership access across actuarial teams.

You will apply, enhance, and develop experience in pricing, valuation, and capital discussions, collaborating with teams to deliver insights and value to clients and the organization.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a university degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Statistics, or Mathematics.
  • Solid MS Office and analytical capabilities with strong problem-solving.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter and team player.
  • Nice-to-have: CAS/SOA exams (1–3) completed.
  • Prior actuarial exposure or familiarity with IFRS17 is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and influence end-to-end pricing, modelling, valuation and capital processes.
  • Create life pricing and valuation models for complex products with actuarial input.
  • Validate key assumptions and apply market insights to identify trends.
  • Use AXIS, R, SQL and MS Excel to analyze results and present findings.
  • Develop and enhance tools to streamline actuarial workflows.
  • Collaborate with actuarial and non-actuarial colleagues to drive results.
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly valuation reporting and communicate outcomes to management.
  • Model and analyze Special Quotes to better serve clients’ needs.
  • Support capital measurement analysis and reporting on a monthly basis.

What will you do?
  • Learn, influence, and innovate end‑to‑end aspects of the business, ranging from Pricing and Modeling to Valuation and Capital. These roles will offer opportunities to gain exposure to all areas of the life insurance business.
  • Create life pricing and valuation models for complex and high‑impact products from an actuarial perspective, including but not limited to asset strategy discussions with the RBC Insurance Investment team and liability cash flow management with RBC Risk Management.
  • Assist in validation of key assumptions, gathering and applying market competition insights, and using business insights to identify trends/opportunities.
  • Use software like AXIS, R, SQL, and MS Excel to produce and analyze results, communicate findings to respective stakeholders to obtain their approvals.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance new and existing tools to better streamline processes.
  • Collaborate with fellow actuarial and non‑actuarial colleagues to achieve success.
  • Conduct monthly and quarterly valuation reporting and communicate results and findings to management.
  • Model and analyze Special Quotes to better serve our clients’ needs.
  • Support monthly/quarterly capital measurement analysis and reporting.
What do you need to succeed?

Must have

  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Solid technical and analytical skills with strong problem‑solving ability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly motivated self‑starter and team player

Nice to have

  • Pursuing a university degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Statistics, or Mathematics
  • Actuarial exposure/background
  • 1‑3 CAS/SOA exams completed
  • Previous experience with Moody’s/GGY AXIS
  • Knowledge of IFRS17, predictive analytics and Tableau are definite assets
  • Programming experience in R, VBA and SQL
Eligibility
  • Be returning to school after the work term end‑date; or
  • If you are not returning to school (i.e., graduating immediately after the work term), you must require the full work term as a mandatory component to graduate successfully
