2025 Microbiology Quality Technician Co-op (8-12-Month) - University
This position reports into Quality Laboratory Supervisor and is based at Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

Role reports to: Quality Laboratory Supervisor
Location: Guelph, Ontario, Canada
Pay: Anticipated weekly pay rate of ($775 - $915) depending on skills, experience, education level & other job-related factors

What you will do

As a member of the Quality Laboratory Team (Microbiology), the successful candidate will take on increasing responsibility throughout the course of their work term(s) in support of all analytical and microbiology laboratory operations. Additionally, the individual will be required to complete assigned projects in support of continuous improvement initiatives.

Throughout All Terms, Students Will Be Expected To:

  1. Maintain detailed, accurate, and up-to-date records of work performed using good documentation practices (GDPs).
  2. Maintain the laboratory and workspace in an audit-ready state.
  3. Participate in site-wide training, as well as a modular functional training program.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support laboratory testing programs by organizing and preparing reagents and solutions.
  2. Perform general housekeeping duties in the Quality Laboratory (Microbiology) in an audit-ready state.
  3. Responsible for the maintenance of laboratory glassware.
  4. Oversee the purchasing of laboratory consumables and supplies.
  5. Maintain a safe work environment by utilizing aseptic techniques and good laboratory practices (GLPs).
  6. Order and maintain the chemical inventory for the Quality Laboratories, including communication with external vendors, procuring quotes, creating purchase orders, and reconciliation of invoices.
  7. Identify continuous improvement opportunities and execute implementation of innovative ways for current systems/processes.

What we are looking for

Required Qualifications

  1. An active student currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program (undergraduate).
  2. Pursuing a degree in a science program.
  3. Eligible to complete an 8–12-month co-op term at Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
  4. Ability to work during the duration of the assignment. The program will be active from Monday-Friday starting in August.
  5. 0-2 years of related experience in a laboratory setting from academic coursework.
  6. Basic understanding of laboratory procedures and equipment.
  7. Proven ability to work independently without continuous feedback.
  8. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.

Desired Qualifications

  1. Experience in laboratory techniques would be an asset.
  2. Excellent oral communication and written documentation skills.
  3. Comfortable working with various computer programs.
  4. Familiar with Good Manufacturing and Good Documentation Practices.
  5. Ability to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
  6. Strong organizational and time-management skills are required.
