SECONDARY I NDIGENOUS SUCCESS TEACHER

Part-time (0.4 FTE) position– Two Days Per Week

School District Position

Effective September 2, 2025 until June 30, 2026

The annual salary for a full-time teaching position ranges from $59,711 to $109,520, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. The salary will be prorated based on FTE.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Working closely as part of the WVS Indigenous Success Team, the WVS Indigenous Secondary Success Teacher supports Indigenous students in their academic, social and personal growth through a cultural lens.

The successful applicant for this position must demonstrate:

  • The ability and experience to develop and support the intellectual, social, cultural and emotional needs of students
  • An understanding and working knowledge of Indigenous traditions, language and protocols
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in using appropriate teaching practices to provide instructional opportunities for small groups and individual student learning in Indigenous Education
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in evaluating student progress and reporting in consultation and collaboration with classroom teachers and the Indigenous Success Team
  • The ability to develop, implement and monitor Indigenous Education Plans in consultation with the classroom teachers and the Secondary Indigenous Counsellor
  • The ability to support classroom teachers in selecting appropriate instructional strategies to meet the learning needs of students
  • Experience and willingness to work with local Elders and community members to enhance Indigenous Education programs
  • The ability to maintain files and records, monitor student attendance and liaise with the school and home as necessary to ensure a positive relationship with students, staff and families
  • Knowledge and experience in working with Indigenous students with a focus on differentiated instruction in the classroom and demonstrated ability to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners
  • Demonstrated ability to incorporate accurate, authentic and relevant First People's resources into the curriculum
  • Willingness to support, coordinate and attend Field Trips, Cultural Activities and Post Secondary Planning opportunities.

Minimum Academic Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor of Education degree or equivalent
  • Valid B.C. Teaching Certificate
  • Successful classroom teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Valid Divers License
  • One course or equivalent in a First Nations field of Educational study
  • One course or equivalent senior level (300 or higher) in Designs for Learning: Numeracy and/or or Literacy.
