Grande Yellowhead Public School Division invites applications for the following position:

Principal, Parkland Composite High School

Duties will commence August 26, 2025.

This competition will remain open until May 8, 2025, 12:00pm.

Role and Responsibilities

The successful candidate is an innovative, caring, collaborative and committed instructional leader, who possesses significant, broad-based educational leadership experience demonstrated by competence in data-informed decision-making and improving measurable student achievement. The responsibilities include:

  • Providing instructional leadership to promote high quality teaching and learning.
  • Implementing the Teacher Growth, Supervision and Evaluation Policy.
  • Providing each student with the opportunity to fulfill their potential and pursue their dreams.
  • Facilitating inclusive educational practices to maximize educational opportunities for all students.
  • Adhering to provincial legislation, board policy and division administrative procedures.
  • Managing school operations and finances.
  • Developing a shared responsibility between student, parents, schools and communities.
  • Modelling commitment to professional development.

Requirements

The successful candidate will:

  • Must hold a Master's degree or willingness to complete a Master's degree within a mutually agreed upon timeline.
  • Bachelors of Education is required with a focus on Secondary Education is preferred.
  • Possess an Alberta Teaching Certificate or be eligible for one.
  • Have experience in implementing the Teaching Quality Standard (TQS) and infusing literacy across the curriculum.
  • Must possess the Alberta Leadership Quality Standard Certification (LQS).
  • In-depth understanding of the Alberta high school curriculum, current research in assessment, data analysis and instructional coaching are required.
  • Experience marking and/or item development of diploma exams is an asset, but not required.
  • Prior experience as a school administrator is required.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

The Division

Grande Yellowhead School Division (GYPSD) stretches from Jasper National Park, east to Evansburg, south of Cadomin, and northwest to Grande Cache. The jurisdiction includes 17 schools, 5 Learning Connection Centres, approximately 5000 students and 600 staff. The Division is governed by seven elected Trustees.

The Board’s four main priorities are:

GYPSD schools offer a broad range of JK-12 programs. Principals focus on strong instructional leadership using generative dialogue to support teacher growth and supervision.

The Division is recognized for its dedication to integrating strong literacy practices throughout the curriculum, promoting inclusive education, and implementing innovative technology programs.

Committed to ongoing professional development, the Division offers each teacher and principal the opportunity to apply for up to $2,500 annually to support their professional learning. Additionally, educators pursuing a Master’s, Doctorate, or Leadership Quality Standard Program may apply for an extra $2,000 per year to further support their educational advancement.
