Job description

The Engineering Project Technologist supports the Transportation Division in the Engineering Department. The position reports directly to the Senior Transportation Engineer and will perform technical and administrative engineering work involving transportation assets and capital improvements. Under the general direction of a professional engineer, the incumbent facilitates the design and advances specific municipal projects from a citywide, community, and corridor level. In addition, the incumbent is responsible to carry out review of design layouts and drawings; and associated reporting; prepare engineering designs and related cost estimates; liaise with external agencies, stakeholders and public; conduct field inspections of work sites; assist in the preparation of Council reports and other required technical presentations; and support project coordination efforts within Transportation Division as well as with other City departments. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include a diploma in Civil Engineering, supplemented by courses in project management plus considerable related experience preferably within the municipal sector, or an equivalent combination of training, and experience. Considerable knowledge of applicable municipal engineering design principles, standards, and methods, in particular related to electrical transportation assets such as streetlighting and traffic signals; municipal engineering practices, procedures, functions and of the rules and regulations applicable to the Division functions. Ability to prepare preliminary designs for transportation infrastructure and to review drawings for technical accuracy and conformance with municipal standards and related specifications. A valid Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia and certification or eligibility for certification as an Applied Science Technologist within the Province of British Columbia are required.
