Job summary

Atikameksheng Anishnawbek is seeking a Lands Management Technician to support land information management through various activities including inspections, surveys, and compliance monitoring. This 12-month contract role requires a diploma, relevant experience in natural resources, and a valid driver's license. Preference will be given to qualified Indigenous applicants.

Qualifications

  • CPR and First Aid training Certification required.

Department: Lands

Employment Status: Contract (12 months)

Salary: $29.33 - $35.04/HR – 35 Hours per Week

Location: Naughton, ON

POSITION SCOPE:

Under the direction of the Lands Manager, and in accordance with the policies and procedures set out by Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, the Lands Management Technician will aid staff with the information management of First Nation land through the distribution of permits, leases, inspection of aggregate operations and compliance monitoring pursuant to the Land Code and may accompany staff to the field while conducting surveys, data collection, mapping, inspections and interviews. This position works within all pertinent federal and provincial legislation, regulations and guidelines and the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek Land Code.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Mandatory Requirements

  • Secondary and / or Post-Secondary School Diploma
  • Work-related experience in Lands, Fish & Wildlife and Natural Resources or related area of study
  • Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ Driver’s License with a clear driver’s abstract
  • CPR and First Aid training Certification

Additional Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of lands management and sustainable development
  • Understanding of Natural Resources matters such as water, forests, wind, air quality, land use and wildlife
  • Ability to develop clear, concise and accurate written communications such as proposals, reports and correspondence
  • Ability to establish and manage priorities to ensure that services and functions are performed in an efficient and responsive manner
  • Working knowledge of computers and computer software GIS would be an asset

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works in compliance with the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek’s Forest Management Plan, Environmental Management Action Plan, Land Code and all relevant government regulations
  • Assistin the implementation of specific silvicultural and forest management planning work projects such as tree marking, forest surveys, modified harvest cuts, thinning, regeneration, reforestation and site preparation
  • Assistwith maintenance of records on forest improvement and silvicultural activities such as improvement cuts, tree marking, site preparation and tending by mapping current projects and updating current projects on a regular basis
  • Conduct operational field program activities such as carry out site inspections and field surveys on foot, in vehicles/ATVs and boats
  • Assistswith the monitoring and compliance process of the permits, leases in relation to the terms and conditions of permits, leases and agreements issued by the Atikameksheng Anishnawbek
  • Provide technical support and research for community-based land use planning
  • Perform computer-aided tasks such as mapping and other technical support tasks related to community-based land use planning
  • Participate in community-based land use planning consultations as required
  • Assistswith administrative matters such as monitoring, reporting and keeping records up to date and responding to inquiries
  • Participate in resource management partnerships and initiatives promoting education and awareness
