Job description

We are looking for compassionate, caring, and patient Public Health Nurses with strong interpersonal and communication skills. About the facility:

The Public Health Program is based at the Jeannie Bird Clinic in La Ronge. However, this position involves travel to outlying LLRIB communities to deliver public health programming to clients.

About the position:

Public Health Nurses will utilize assessment and nursing skills to help clients maintain optimal health. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, educating clients, and implementing public health nursing programs.

Duties:
  1. Educate clients during prenatal and postnatal periods in group or individual settings.
  2. Implement comprehensive health programs in schools.
  3. Assess the needs of band members, make necessary referrals, and assist families.
  4. Provide pre- and postnatal care.
  5. Manage communicable disease control and tuberculosis programming.
  6. Provide direct care by assessing client health needs, planning care, implementing interventions, and evaluating outcomes.
  7. Promote healthy lifestyles and health education.
  8. Act as a client advocate and liaise between LLRIBHS and other agencies.
Qualifications:
  1. Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, in good standing, and registered with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS).
  2. Previous experience in Public Health and/or Acute Care is an asset.
  3. Experience working with First Nations Communities is an asset.
  4. Ability to speak or understand Cree is a definite asset.
  5. Ability to work as part of a team.
  6. Ability to travel to outlying communities.
  7. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  8. Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills.
  9. Strong interpersonal and public relations skills.
  10. Proficiency in computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office.
  11. Ability to work independently and be self-directed.
