Job description

Manitoulin Family Resources - Outreach Counsellors (Domestic Violence)

Manitoulin Family Resources is seeking two full-time Outreach Counsellors for the Violence Against Women Prevention program. These roles support women in recovery from violence and/or abuse, working both in the community and at the emergency VAW shelter. The counsellor provides flexible, supportive client services, maintains client records and statistical data, promotes agency services, and offers public education.

Qualifications:
  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant field or a suitable diploma with relevant work experience.
  • Registration with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers as a member in good standing, or proof of eligibility and intent to register.
  • Ability to apply an intersectional feminist framework that considers women's relation to social systems.
  • Familiarity with child welfare sector and court processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of community support services for women and children.
  • Working knowledge of harm reduction principles and practices.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, cultural competency, and anti-oppressive frameworks.
  • Excellent interpersonal, planning, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, clear VSS, and insurable driver’s abstract.

This position is a bargaining unit position, averaging 35 hours per week. Outreach Counsellors deliver services across Manitoulin Island and the north-east shore of Lake Huron, from Massey to Nairn Centre. Remote work assignments are possible, requiring a suitable setting respecting confidentiality and PHIPA compliance. The position is based at the main office in Mindemoya.
