This dual-role position alternates between 1st Cook and Sous Chef responsibilities, supporting both the hands-on execution of daily food service and the leadership of kitchen operations. Job Description

ARAMARK Remote Workplace Services are hiring a 1st Cook / Sous Chef position for a remote lodge near Fort McMurray, AB. This dual-role position alternates between 1st Cook and Sous Chef responsibilities, supporting both the hands-on execution of daily food service and the leadership of kitchen operations. The role requires a highly adaptable culinary professional with strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills, capable of maintaining high standards in food quality, safety, and team performance.

Transportation is provided out of Edmonton, AB to site

Rotation are 20 days on / 10 days off

Please note all candidates considered for hire will be required to successfully pass a pre-employment D&A test and criminal background check.

Job Responsibilities

As 1st Cook :

  • Prepare and serve meals according to the daily menu and Chef?s specifications.
  • Supervise kitchen staff during meal preparation and service.
  • Ensure proper food handling, storage, and rotation (HACCP / FIFO compliance).
  • Maintain updated menu boards and ensure timely, high-quality meal service.
  • Provide mentorship to junior cooks and new staff.
  • Participate in daily production meetings with the Chef.
  • Attend safety meetings and follow emergency response procedures.

As Sous Chef :

  • Step in as acting Chef during absences, ensuring continuity of operations overseeing kitchen operations and supervising culinary staff.
  • Plan, prepare, and present meals and pastries according to menu and crew size.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as meal sheets, inventory, time sheets, and menu planning.
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks and ensure effective communication across the team.
  • Maintain food cost controls and ensure portioning and equipment use are optimized.
  • Ensure all food safety logs and temperature checks are completed and actioned.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of culinary experience in remote camp or hospitality environments.
  • Journeyman or Red Seal Certification (or working toward it).
  • Valid WHMIS, Food Safe Advanced, and First Aid certifications.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in time management and prioritization.
  • Physically capable of meeting the demands of a fast-paced kitchen.
  • Willingness to work long rotations and adapt to split shifts and remote locations.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office) is an asset.

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and / or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and / or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
