Job summary

LandSea is seeking 1st Cook for MV Isabelle, a 650-passenger floatel, in Squamish, BC. Supervisory duties include planning, inventory control, and menu execution for remote catering operations. You will train 2nd Cooks, manage staff, and ensure safety and food quality across shifts.

The position requires 3–5 years as a 1st cook, English proficiency, and BC Food Safety certification. Unionized environment with 40-hour weeks and overtime at time-and-a-half.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3-5 years supervisory experience as a 1st cook.
  • Proven leadership, organizational, and time management skills in an industrial kitchen environment.
  • Food Safety certification in the province of British Columbia for the duration of employment is required.
  • Ability to work within a multicultural diverse environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal English.
  • Proven experience with inventory and grocery ordering.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and organizes food preparation and culinary activities.
  • Assists Chef with menu ordering, inventory, and daily production planning.
  • Preparation and production of menu items.
  • Ensures daily production levels are met.

About Working on a Floatel

LandSea will be providing workforce catering and accommodation services for guests onboard the MV Isabelle, a 650-passenger Floatel. At work, the crew is provided with accommodation, full meals, and WIFI, and can access health/gym facilities when off work. We provide partial uniforms and help with the travel/reservations as needed to and from locations. Excellent Health and Wellness benefits are being offered.

Union Status and Collective Agreement
  • Your position is unionized and falls within the bargaining unit represented by UNITE HERE! Local 40. The terms and conditions of your employment, including wages, hours of work, and working conditions are governed entirely by the prevailing Memorandum of Agreement MOA between Landsea and the Union.
  • Your base salary will be $26.69/hour. You will also receive overtime pay paid at time and a half for hours worked over 40 hours/week. There will be rotating shifts, and variable start times. You will be entitled to 10 days of paid holiday (or 4% of gross salary). Your compensation strictly complies with the UNITE HERE! Local 40 wage scale for this classification.
About The Opportunity

We have 3 openings for 1st Cook. This is a supervisory role responsible for the full scope of planning and directing all food preparation and cooking activities at the camp. This includes food requirement estimates and labor costs, maintaining inventory, ordering food, kitchen supplies, and equipment, ensuring the quality of food, creating new recipes, and preparing and cooking meals and specialty foods, including dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances.

The 1st Cook also supervises and schedules daily duties for kitchen staff and provides instruction to the 2nd Cooks and kitchen helpers in preparation, garnishing, and presentation of food and teaching new cooking techniques.

Physical Requirements
  • Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch for long periods.
  • Repeat the same movements including fast, repetitive movements of fingers, hands, and wrists.
  • Use muscles to lift, push, pull, or carry objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Use hands to handle objects and tools.
Certifications And Other Requirements
  • All crew members onboard the MV Isabelle must have the minimum marine safety (Seafarers) certifications required by Transport Canada for the specific job.
  • MED STCW Basic Safety Training.
  • Marine Basic First Aid.
  • MED STCW Survival Craft.
  • Passenger Safety Management.
  • Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test before hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice.
  • WHMIS 2015.
  • Valid Government Issued Identification.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian, PR Status, or valid Work Permit).
  • Criminal Record Check.
  • Able to work the night shift.
  • Available to work multiple rotations including 21-7, 2-2, 4-2, etc.
