Overview

Position Summary

A First Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking various food items according to recipes and airline menu specifications. He/she must follow consistently all the food safety and HACCP principles in line with Gate Gourmet Food Safety policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for timely, proper, and efficient preparation of all food items according to the correct menu specifications, recipes, and passenger load requirements.
  • Ensure the proper use of raw materials in a continuous effort to keep wastage to a minimum.
  • Comply with and practice the company’s established Food Safety/ HACCP Policy and Procedures.
  • Assuring that the quality standards of the food is maintained all the time
  • Co-ordinate with Assembly/Food Packing staff to make sure their work is not delayed, and all dished meals are in accordance with the airline specs
  • Responsible for managing inventory, ensure FIFO is being followed
  • Should have basic knowledge, experience, and skills to work with various modern kitchen equipment – Rational Oven, Fryer, Steam Kettles, Char Broiler, Flat top Stove, Cooking Gas range etc.
Job Specific Requirements
  • At least 1-year experience cooking in a hotel kitchen/restaurant or manufacturing high volume catering environment
  • Experience cooking in various cuisines – Asian/Indian/Continental/ is an asset, Knowledge of international cuisines
  • Must be able to Read, write and follow food specifications and menu guidelines in English
  • Red Seal (preferred or on route to achieve)
  • Experience in mass production
  • Availability on weekends and holidays
  • As per Transport Canada, this would classify as a screener position therefore they must be PR or Canadian Citizen.

Education Requirements
  • Culinary degree or cooking certification preferred
  • Red Seal or equivalent preferred
Environmental Requirements
  • Will be exposed to extreme temperature changes and noise
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, move product, equipment and supplies up to fifty (50) pounds
  • Regularly stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during shifts of 8 hours
