Job description

We are hiring a 1st Class Power Engineer for a long-established Canadian company in Taber, AB.

Bringing a strong national presence, this organization manufactures and distributes a wide range of products for both retail and industrial markets. With a focus on quality, sustainability, and continuous improvement, it plays a key role in supporting food production and consumer goods across the country.

What you’ll do as a 1st Class Power Engineer :

  • Operate and maintain 3 power boilers and 2 backpressure turbines to ensure continuous power generation
  • Monitor processes, equipment, temperatures, pressures, and levels to ensure safe 24 / 7 plant operation
  • Respond to emergencies or abnormal conditions following established procedures
  • Conduct basic troubleshooting, electromechanical maintenance, and operational support with other trades
  • Perform routine tasks including sampling, testing, equipment preparation for maintenance, and housekeeping
  • Occasionally assume duties of the Chief Power Engineer and support continuous improvement initiatives

What you’ll bring as a 1st Class Power Engineer :

  • Valid 1st Class Power Engineering Certificate (2nd Class considered if progressing toward 1st)
  • Experience operating and maintaining systems in a 1st Class facility; strong steam, boiler, and turbine knowledge
  • Strong mechanical aptitude; hands-on experience with DCS systems, generators, pumps, compressors, etc.
  • Excellent troubleshooting abilities and understanding of plant safety procedures (e.g., LOTO, Confined Space)
  • Solid communication skills, team player, and leadership potential; WHMIS, TDG, OH&S knowledge preferred
  • Food industry experience is an asset; must be safety-conscious with a strong work ethic and technical capability
