Job summary

The Six Nations of the Grand River is seeking a Community Food Animator for the Community Health and Wellness, Wellbeing program. This 24‑month contract role focuses on health promotion, community food programs and vibrant spaces that acknowledge Haudenosaunee culture, especially foods and food ways.

The position reports to the Manager, Allied Health Services and requires 35 hours per week with a minimum wage of $29.07 per hour. Applications close Sept 16, 2026.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a University degree in Health Sciences or related field.
• College diploma in Health related field and one year related experience with knowledge and skills related to health promotion and community food systems.
• Demonstrated experience working on community food security initiatives including community gardens, kitchens and/or markets.
• Strong knowledge of and familiarity with Haudenosaunee food and food ways.
• Must possess a valid ‘G’ class license and a vehicle.
• High level of computer skills – Microsoft Office, MS Word & Excel.

Responsibilities

• Program planning, development and evaluation in collaboration with nutrition services and the Manager, Allied Health Services.
• Coordinate and facilitate small group meetings and large community events around Haudenosaunee foods and food ways.
• Support animation of community garden(s) and community food programs; deliver workshops and information presentations.
• Implement health promotion/food-based programs with guidance from health care providers and staff.
• Ensure privacy, safety and confidentiality in all activities; report hazardous conditions as required.
• Plan weekly itineraries, complete monthly reports and statistics; assist with funding applications for sustainability.

JOB SUMMARY

The Community Food Animator Reports to and receives direct supervision from Manager, Allied Health Services -Community Health & Wellness, Wellbeing, and Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council.

PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION

The role of the Community Food Animator is to provide a broad range of community-based activities that enhance health and well-being of the community with a focus on health promotion, community food programs and to develop vibrant community spaces acknowledging Haudenosaunee culture, especially foods and food ways.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• TECHNICAL FUNCTIONS:
• Program planning, development and evaluation:
• In collaboration with nutrition services and the Manager, Allied Health Services, determines how to best support needs of the community through programming
• Work with key stakeholders to develop the process and design of the programs/projects
• Coordinate and facilitate small group meetings, and large community events to educate, build capacity and engagement; specific around Haudenosaunee foods and food ways
• Support animation of community garden(s) and community food programs
• Organizing and deliver workshops, outreach and information presentations and provide hands‑on assistance in launching community food projects
• Implements health promotion/food based programs in the community:
• Facilitates groups and/or education programs with the support of relevant regulated health care providers/program support staff
• Utilizes culturally appropriate principles throughout programming and communicating with community participants
• Complies with established safety precautions and standards, infection control procedures and aseptic and isolation techniques
• COMMUNICATIONS FUNCTIONS:
• Employs appropriate communication skills when interacting with participants, families and other staff
• Follows procedures for reporting hazardous conditions, equipment and incidents
• Ensures privacy is maintained in accordance with relevant regulations
• Provides appropriate advocacy for participants and families when necessary
• Communicates regularly with the Manager, Allied Health Services
• ADMINISTRATIVE FUNCTIONS:
• Planning weekly itinerary and completing monthly work reports and statistics
• Follow established reporting procedures as laid out by the program
• Complete necessary monthly report forms and ensure relevant statistics are maintained as required
• Review Health Promotion Services policy and procedure manual, work plans and job descriptions annually
• Coordinate and schedule events, programs and activities
• Support funding applications for future sustainability of the project
• OTHER FUNCTIONS:

Other duties as assigned or deemed necessary as it relates to the position.

• Provides support to the Six Nations Emergency Measures Plan by ensuring awareness of the Emergency measures Plan and assistance as instructed by the Director of health Services.
• It is the responsibility of the employee to be aware of and adhere to all policies and procedures, including those that relate to client safety, staff safety and risk management.
