S.U.C.C.E.S.S. in Vancouver is seeking a Cook to join our Community Real Estate & Asset Management team.

The successful candidate will prepare meals and snacks per Canada’s Food Guide, while maintaining clean, sanitized cooking areas and ensuring dietary needs of clients are met. The role is casual and on-site, requiring a recognized cooking program, FoodSafe certification, and at least one year of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Grade 10 completion or equivalent.
  • Completion of a recognized cooking program or equivalent experience.
  • FoodSafe certification required.
  • At least one year of recent, relevant experience.
  • Experience with multicultural clients and international cooking methods.

Responsibilities

  • Develop breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack plans aligned with Canada’s Food Guide and dietary needs.
  • Purchase and order food items for meal preparation.
  • Maintain and purchase equipment for meal prep.
  • Keep inventory of food and related items.
  • Adhere to approved budget limits for purchases.
  • Follow Food Safe practices for storage and preparation.
  • Maintain clean and sanitized food prep areas.
  • Prepare and cook meals and snacks.
  • Assess residence meal needs and approach.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Residence Care Manager.

Job Summary

The Cook prepares meals and snacks using roasting, grilling, steaming, boiling, and baking methods. All food preparation must comply with established guidelines, including Canada’s Food Guide, and meet each client’s dietary needs. The Cook also keeps food preparation areas clean and sanitized in accordance with applicable standards

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack menu plan in accordance with guidelines such as Canada’s Food Guide and relevant dietary restrictions and needs of the clients
  • Purchases and orders food items necessary for the preparation of meals
  • Maintains and purchases equipment necessary for the preparation of meals
  • Maintains an inventory of food or other related items
  • Ensures that purchases are within approved budget limits
  • Follows Food Safe practices when storing and preparing food
  • Cleans and sanitizes food preparation areas in accordance to sanitation requirements
  • Prepares and cooks meals and snacks
  • Reviews the residence’s meal preparation needs and approach
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Residence Care Manager
Education, Training and Experience
  • Grade 10 completion
  • Completion of a recognized institutional or residential cooking program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • FoodSafe certification
  • At least one year of recent, relevant experience
  • Experience with multicultural clients and international cooking methods
Job Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to operate equipment related to preparing and cooking food
  • Ability to carry out the duties of working in a kitchen setting
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Ability to communicate in Chinese (any dialects) is considered an asset
  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent time management and organization skills
Additional Information

  • Able to work split shifts (morning and evening)
