Division: Integrated Services for Newcomers
Program: Settlement & Family Services - ISIP
Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time (12.5 hours/week)

Class Schedule:
- LINC 3/4 PM - Monday to Thursday, 12:30 - 3:00pm, in-person. 12.5 hours/week.
Responsibilities
- Language Instructors deliver Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB)-based settlement English language services for newcomers to Canada according to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) established language training outcomes.
- Plan lessons that utilize and adapt classroom materials for teaching.
- Set up field trips, invite guest speakers, and provide referrals to community resources for students when needed.
- Develop daily lesson plans for newcomers to learn English in practical, real-world contexts.
- Develop long-term unit plans based on S.U.C.C.E.S.S. curricula, core framework, and CLB-aligned content.
- Submit unit summaries and assessments; teach classes in accordance with IRCC Language Training Outcomes.
- Provide education on values such as diversity and inclusion; engage students to facilitate dialogue and learning.
- Deliver courses and programs via in-person and online formats; maintain and submit accurate records (attendance, progress reports).
- Track student progress effectively; implement Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) practices and Assessment for Learning principles as directed.
- Disseminate class or program evaluation materials; identify and communicate student or client needs to the supervisor for follow-up or referrals.
- Contribute to the Tutela (IRCC online community of practice) platform; perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Education is an asset.
- TESL Canada and/or TESOL certificate or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of 600 hours English language teaching experience or completion of a supervised teaching practicum as part of a TESL/TESOL program.
- Minimum of 1 year adult teaching experience.
- Experience in settlement/adaptation services and in the social services sector is an asset.
- Experience with multicultural clientele and immigrant-related services; knowledge of community resources for newcomers to Canada.
- Knowledge of intercultural and social issues; knowledge of CLB-based language programs (ELSA/LINC).
- Knowledge of basic principles of classroom crisis management.
Job Skills and Abilities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; additional languages are considered an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; strong MS Office, online learning platforms, and web-based application proficiency.
- Familiarity with classroom equipment (smartboard, document camera); strong course and lesson planning, time management, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to apply CLB levels, skills, and competencies to daily and monthly plans; commitment to continual professional development.
