Program : Settlement & Family Services - MECD-FRC

About the Position :

This position will provide Early Childhood Development (ECD) programs and services to newcomer families with children 6 and under in the Tri-cities area, such as family support, parent education and outreach. The staff will also work in partnership with ECD Service providers in the area to identify ECD service gaps and provide services to meet these needs.

Reports to : Program Manager

Key Duties & Responsibilities :

  • Provides childminding for children between birth and 5 years old in partnership, guidance, and support of the MECD Program Staff.
  • Ensures equipment in the facility is maintained, operational, and safe at all times.
  • Remains up to date on emergency procedures and childminding regulations.
  • Keeps parents informed of program expectations, activities, and their childs progress in a clear, appropriate, and sensitive manner.
  • Maintains a positive and supportive relationship with parents, staff, and community partners.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by Program Manager.

Education, Training and Experience :

  • Certification as Licensed BC Early Childhood Educator to work with infants and toddlers is an asset
  • Certification in First Aid with specialization in emergency childcare
  • Certification in Foodsafe is an asset
  • Minimum 2 years of childminding experience
  • Experience working with children from different age groups
  • Experience working with children with extra support needs
  • Experience working with immigrants, newcomers and / or refugees
  • Experience with multicultural clientele and immigrant-related services
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate activities and developmental needs of infants and toddlers
  • Knowledge of common family and parenting issues and needs in an intercultural context
  • Knowledge of local community resources for immigrants and newcomers
  • Job Skill and Abilities :

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Additional languages considered an asset
  • Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills
  • Excellent technical skills in MS office and web-based applications (e.g. MS Teams and Zoom)
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a cooperative team environment
  • Ability to handle the physical demands of childminding
