Division:Integrated Services for Newcomers

Program:Port of Entry/Arrival Settlement - CANN

Employment Type: Temporary Full-Time (35 hours per week)

Contract End Date: March 31, 2026

Job Summary:

The Resources and Services Officer is responsible for researching, developing, and maintaining written and electronic newcomer resources. They will also provide follow-up information and orientation services to newcomers; and collaborate with stakeholders to develop and promote newcomer resources.

Reports to: Senior Program Manager


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides follow-up services to newcomers to link them with local immigrant-serving and community organizations
  • Responds to client inquiries via telephone and email
  • Analyzes newcomer arrival trends and explores service delivery strategies to address emerging client needs
  • Coordinates and communicates with government agencies and immigrant-serving organizations nation-wide to ensure delivery of information (written and electronic) by CANN at YVR to newcomers is up-to-date and accurate
  • Communicates all new or updated newcomer resources information to the CANN team
  • Maintains Client Services System (CSS) database by ensuring data integrity
  • Ensures and retrieves data by developing repeatable or ad hoc queries and generating reports
  • Conducts a needs assessment and uses various platforms to provide client-centered orientation and information on settlement steps (e.g. life in Canada; and rights and responsibilities)
  • Provides referral services to newcomers based on individual client needs
  • Promotes national settlement, community, and government services and events to newcomers
  • Addresses emergency and unexpected needs of refugees upon arrival and liaises with appropriate authorities to ensure client needs are met
  • Collaborates with CBSA and YVR personnel as necessary to facilitate reception services
  • Facilitates interpretation between refugees and CBSA as required to facilitate landing procedures
  • Attends program service meetings on service delivery issues
  • Provides input and assistance in program and resource development
  • Stocks up bulk deliveries of written resource materials and refugee items (i.e., IRCC’s Welcome to Canada guidebook, government publication, and refugee items)
  • Compiles monthly and quarterly statistical reports for the IRCC based on their requirements
  • Develops resources for newcomers and refugees, ensuring updates and translations are added to all resources before distribution
  • Updates information and resources for newcomers on a custom designed web application that serves multiple platforms
  • Develops and updates content for publications, website, e-kiosk, resource emails, and resource portals
  • Develops and updates the CANN program website and works with community partners to promote their settlement services through written and online channels
  • Works with external vendors to coordinate maintenance and upgrades of CANN Client Service System
  • Participates in professional development activities to support program improvement and service outcomes
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by CANN Associate Director

Education, Training and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social or Human Sciences or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience Experience working with diverse clientele Technical skills in word processing, HTML, website development, database management, SQL, and online communication technologies is an assetExperience with Adobe In-design an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of settlement and integration; services and programs for newcomers; immigration trends and polices; and resources for newcomers
  • Experience working with refugees and immigrants
