Job summary

A leading company in the financial sector is seeking a Legal Translator to support the translation of critical regulatory documents. The ideal candidate will have a B.A. in Translation, with at least 2 years of experience in the financial industry, proficiency in French and English, and strong attention to detail. This role involves managing multiple translation requests, ensuring accuracy and quality of documents to meet communication standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience in translation, preferably in the financial industry.
  • Member of a recognized association is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate translation, editing and proofreading of documents including mutual fund regulatory documentation.
  • Coordinate with management all incoming translation requests to meet deadlines.

Job description

The Legal Translator is responsible for translating, editing and proofreading the translation of a variety of documents including, but not limited to, mutual fund regulatory documentation, including financial and legal documentation. The translator is also responsible for prioritizing requests and keeping abreast of new terminology and regulatory requirements to ensure that the quality of the French translation and Fidelity’s communication standards are met.

Key Accountabilities

  • Accurate translation, editing and proofreading of a variety of documents including, but not limited to, mutual fund regulatory documentation, including financial and legal documentation
  • Proofread material translated by other translators to ensure quality control as well as Fidelity’s communication standards are met
  • Coordinate with the Manager all incoming translation requests according to priorities, to meet deadlines
  • Research and stay abreast of specialized terminology, and read Quebec papers to ensure the language of communication meets the expectations of the target audience

What We Are Looking For :

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience in translation, preferably in the financial industry and in a structured environment (required)

Education :

  • B.A. in Translation (English to French) from a recognized university (Required)

Designations, Licenses, or Accreditations

  • Member of a recognized association is an asset (i.e. Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes du Québec or Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario) (asset)

Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent knowledge of French and English languages
  • Good understanding of Quebec legal and regulatory framework
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to translate with accuracy and appropriate style
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask and adapt to rapidly changing priorities
  • Knowledge of and interest in legal matters and financial markets
  • Experience with a computer-assisted translation tool, e.g. SDL Trados Studio is an asset
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a team environment and under minimal supervision
