Job description

The School of Social Work in the Faculty of Education and Professional Studies at Nipissing University invites applications for a 10-month Limited Term Faculty Appointment. This position is at the Lecturer or Assistant Professor rank and will start August 1, 2025. This position is located in North Bay, Ontario.

The School of Social Work at Nipissing University is grounded in a longstanding institutional commitment to high-quality social work education tailored to the diverse needs of Northern Ontario. Established following Ministry approval in 2015, the Honours Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program reflects a generalist approach informed by core values of human rights, inclusion, and equality, with particular attention to social and ecological justice in the northeastern region of the province.

The program is shaped by both internal and external guidance, aligning with the Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE–ACFTS) accreditation standards, national and provincial codes of ethics and practice, and Nipissing University’s strategic and academic plans. The curriculum is designed to foster a supportive learning environment and is underpinned by a clear mission and program goals that are evident in course syllabi and assessments.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • A PhD or ABD in Social Work or a related field is preferred
  • An MSW
  • Post-secondary teaching experience
  • A minimum of five years practice experience
  • Have research activities related to the field of social work
  • Eligible for registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers

Responsibilities

The candidate will be responsible for delivering six courses in the program. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach some or all the following courses:

  • SWRK-3216 - Professional Skills Development
  • SWRK 3505 - Field Practicum I
  • SWRK-3506 - Anti-Oppression Theorizing
  • SWRK 4605- Field Practicum II
  • SWRK-4716 - Social Work Leadership
  • SWRK-4746 - Social Work, Health and Well-Being
  • SWRK-4806 – Community Practice in Northern

The successful candidate may have the opportunity to teach different courses related to their expertise and field of research.

The annual salary will correspond with qualifications and experience and will follow the Nipissing University Faculty Association (NUFA) Full-time Academic Staff Bargaining Unit Collective Agreement. The salary for a 10-month Lecturer position will be prorated from an annual range of $65,767 to $99,079 CAD. The salary for a 10-month Assistant Professor position will be prorated from an annual range of $85,372 to $130,606 CAD.
