MERRITT CENTRAL & DIAMOND VALE ELEMENTARY & MERRITT SECONDARY SCHOOLS

1.0 FTE Continuing full-time Nle’kepmxcin (Thompson) Language Instructor, beginning September 1, 2025.

Required Qualifications

  • Be a speaker of the Nłeʔkepmxcin Language.
  • Possess a First Nations Language teacher certificate for Nłeʔkepmxcin, or be eligible for this certificate.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Nłeʔkepmx and/or Syilx culture.
  • Training and experience working with grade-level students.
  • Experience with adapting materials, resources, assessments, and learning outcomes for student needs.
  • Valid BC Teaching certificate or eligible for Letter of Permission.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A commitment to supporting a variety of learning needs.
  • Experience/training in supporting the social-emotional learning needs of students.
  • A commitment to establishing and maintaining positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • A commitment to working as a member of a school team in support of students.

School District 58 is working to ensure an inclusive, diverse and representative workforce. Nicola-Similkameen School District has received approval from the Human Rights Tribunal allowing preferential hiring to persons of Indigenous ancestry. The District may give preference in hiring persons of Indigenous ancestry who possess the necessary qualifications to increase the number of Indigenous staff to be more representative of the learners we serve.

The starting annual salary for this full-time teacher position ranges from $60,090 - $109,520 , with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement.
