This position is 1.0 PY (full-time position).

The Nunavut Department of Education is committed to supporting staff development through professional learning opportunities. Nunavut schools focus on improving literacy outcomes and ensuring culturally relevant and respectful learning experiences.

Located in Gjoa Haven, Quqshuun Ilihakvik Elementary School serves approximately 249 students in a K-6 setting with a staff of 34. The school and community have a rich Inuit cultural history.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education degree or Pending Degree
  • Teaching certification acceptable for Nunavut Teaching Certificate

Note: If this becomes an open until filled posting, the position may be offered as a one-year term under a Letter of Authority.

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience with current assessment methods
  • Evidence of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
  • Experience in classroom management and creating positive learning environments (e.g., Restitution, Tribes, PBIS)
  • Cross-cultural and northern teaching experience
  • Training in Balanced Literacy
  • Experience teaching ESL students
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents
  • Relevant subject knowledge and training
  • Skills in education-related technology (e.g., SMART Board)

Additional notes:

  • Subsidized housing is available, sharing may be required.
  • Salary ranges from $83,643 to $131,151 prorated per annum.
  • Gjoa Haven Northern Allowance is $26,345 prorated per annum.
