About the role

The Métis Family Well-Being program's mandate is to disrupt and prevent the cycle of violence against Indigenous women by developing policies and resources to support children and youth affected by violence. The strengths-based and prevention-oriented programs developed at the local level by Indigenous partners aim to reduce the need to bring children into care by supporting families through the least disruptive means possible. The long-term objectives include:

  • Reducing the number of Indigenous children and youth in child welfare and youth justice systems
  • Reducing violence in families
  • Improving overall health and well-being of communities

What you will be doing

  • Ensure that Métis Family Well-Being program is delivered in the spirit and philosophy of the Métis Nation of Ontario’s Statement of Prime Purpose
  • Determine courses of action based on client needs
  • Facilitate client services such as home visits, assessments, referrals, wellness plan development, and consultations
  • Provide education and organize participant-based activities (PBAs) for targeted groups
  • Record client services in the Online Health and Access Tracking System (OHATS)
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to privacy legislation
  • Perform administrative duties and other responsibilities as assigned by the Program Supervisor
  • Manage financial reporting for your program site and budget
  • Reflect Métis cultural approaches in activities and services
  • Participate in ongoing professional development
  • Attend training and meetings outside working hours
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as determined by management

Qualifications

Mandatory qualifications:

  • Experience working with volunteers in a non-profit environment
  • At least 1 year of experience in client services
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children aged 0-18
  • Proficiency with computer programs (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in social services
  • Knowledge of the Métis Nation of Ontario and its programs
  • Knowledge of Indigenous programs and services
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to lift 11.5 kg when required
