POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Surgical Services team delivers highly specialized, compassionate perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical procedures, ensuring safety, precision, and excellence throughout the surgical journey. Working to promote nursing excellence and uphold the highest professional standards, the Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for surgical patients throughout the perioperative continuum. The OR RN works closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate surgical care. The objective of the Registered Nurse is to provide safe and competent care through the application of perioperative nursing knowledge, technical expertise, and sound clinical judgment, while demonstrating professionalism, respect, and a commitment to patient safety. This role requires strong assessment abilities, advanced technical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and a dedication to maintaining aseptic technique and surgical standards. The successful candidate's home site will be the site listed above and may be required to work at two or more locations.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Completion of a recognized Perioperative Nursing Certificate from an institution accredited to deliver perioperative nursing education
• Programs must align with Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) Standards, ensuring competency in sterile technique, safety, and surgical support roles
• Minimum one year of recent clinical experience in an Operating Room (within the past three years)
• Current BCLS certification
• Must be able to work wearing a lead apron/vest (20lbs) for prolonged periods of time
• Demonstrated knowledge and skill in physical assessment
• Ability to function effectively as both scrub nurse and circulating nurse, supporting surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interprofessional teams
• Proficiency in maintaining aseptic and sterile technique, preparing surgical instrumentation, and supporting intraoperative patient care
• Strong understanding of safety protocols, surgical workflows, and operating room best practices
• Proficiency with hospital information systems and electronic documentation
• Demonstrates professional integrity and sound judgment with accurate, timely documentation aligned with CNO standards and best practice guidelines
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in fast paced, high acuity environments
