Senior C++ Software Engineer - Remote Work at BairesDev
In this role, you'll build a lightweight edge runtime designed to survive disconnected, intermittent, and low-bandwidth conditions, store‑and‑forwarding data cleanly whenever the link drops. Working with modern C++ at the systems level, you'll build software that discovers devices, provisions digital twins, and keeps running reliably at the edge where connectivity can't be assumed.
What You'll Do:
- Build edge runtime software using modern C++, with a strong focus on coroutines, ownership, lifetimes, and concurrency.
- Develop IoT and edge functionality that operates under disconnected, intermittent, and low-bandwidth conditions.
- Implement device discovery, local persistence, and store‑and‑forward behavior for unreliable network links.
- Build and maintain secure networking using gRPC and mTLS connections.
- Author tests across the full spectrum, including unit, contract, integration, boundary, restart, and negative tests.
What we are looking for:
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
- Strong proficiency in modern C++, preferably C++20, including coroutines, ownership and lifetimes, concurrency, asynchronous I/O, and defensive error handling.
- Experience with IoT and edge development, including DDIL conditions, device discovery, local persistence, and store‑and‑forward behavior.
- Experience with Linux or Windows systems programming, including service processes and OS‑level APIs.
- Background in networking and secure transport, including gRPC, mTLS, sockets, and connection lifecycle management.
- Strong test authoring skills across unit, contract, integration, boundary, restart, and negative testing.
- Ability to explain and defend AI‑assisted code, including license and dependency verification.
- Advanced proficiency in English.
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with Go.
- Experience with Clang/LLVM.
- Background in OTA and secure software updates, including signed manifests and rollback.
- Experience with local persistence tools such as SQLite or encrypted local databases.
- Familiarity with device discovery and provisioning protocols.
- Experience with OpenSSL, TLS/mTLS, or secure protocol design.
- Experience with cross‑compilation for non‑host processor architectures.
- Background in test infrastructure, including deterministic clocks, fault injection, sanitizers, and race detection.
- Proficiency in Python for build and test automation.
- Robotics, autonomous systems, maritime, or defense‑adjacent systems experience.
How we do make your work (and your life) easier:
- 100% remote work (from anywhere).
- Excellent compensation in USD or your local currency if preferred.
- Hardware and software setup for you to work from home.
- Flexible hours: create your own schedule.
- Paid parental leaves, vacations, and holidays.
- Innovative and multicultural work environment: collaborate and learn from the global Top 1% of talent.
- Supportive environment with mentorship, promotions, skill development, and diverse growth opportunities.
