Job Summary
Airswift is seeking a Wells Engineer – Well Testing (12 months, with a strong possibility of extension) to work on an outsourced contract in Rio de Janeiro with a major Oil & Gas Company. The role is an onshore position, open exclusively to Brazilian citizens. The engineer will provide specialized technical support in deepwater exploration and appraisal well testing to the Brazil well team, responsible for technical design, equipment supervision, detailed engineering, and on-site operational supervision to safely and reliably design, plan, and execute exploration and appraisal (E&A) well testing scopes in Brazil, in accordance with all local regulations and relevant company and industry standards. Work will involve a multidisciplinary and international team to ensure the safe achievement of all technical and commercial objectives related to complex and challenging deepwater E&A well testing scopes, including managing operational and process safety risks, delivering reliable technical engineering designs, developing detailed operating procedures, and providing supervision and oversight of operations at the wellsite and contractor bases.
Job Responsibilities
- Promote a strong safety culture in all well testing activities, with a focus on inherently safer designs, process safety, procedural discipline, compliance with standards, and collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Manage and collaborate with well testing and drilling teams, as well as with associated contractors, to develop safe and reliable designs and robust, detailed operating procedures.
- Coordinate the management of regional resources and activities with direct input from regional and functional management and engineering teams.
- Ensure quality and oversee the preparation and testing of contractors’ equipment prior to the mobilization of the drilling rig.
- Oversee the contractual and technical compliance of service providers and ensure that time and cost budgets are accurately forecast and that expenditures are properly monitored and controlled.
- Analyze operational failure incidents, assess root causes and their effects, and present findings to foster a positive learning culture.
- Draft detailed technical reports, project briefs, well programs, work instructions, and other documentation in English, and possess computer skills with relevant technical and office software packages.
- Manage and support Hazard Identification (HAZard IDentification), Hazard Operability Studies (HAZard OPerability), and Layers of Protection Analysis, as well as HSE risk assessments, well operations reviews, certification, and design engineering reviews.
- Integrate service providers and client demands to deliver safe, efficient and compliant operations.
- Interface with the rig personnel on preparation of SIMOPS, TWOPs and safety critical and operational procedures.
- Provide onshore logistical and operational support for regional activity as required.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
- Fluent in English.
- Experience in deepwater operations, with experience as an operator or in the services sector in the design and planning of deepwater exploration and appraisal (E&A) well testing operations.
- Previous experience in process safety involving HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA analyses, as well as in applying these techniques to improve the safety and reliability of well testing operations.
- Previous experience in ensuring the design of deepwater well tests (DSTs), safety systems for subsea and surface well testing, and safety‑critical equipment.
- Valid Well Control Certificate (WellSharp or IWCF).
- Open exclusively to Brazilian citizens.
