A leading automotive manufacturer in São Paulo is seeking a Design Manager to lead design teams and ensure the successful execution of design projects. You will drive change management and develop policies that impact the overall design function. The ideal candidate should hold an engineering degree and have extensive knowledge of engineering software such as NX and TcAE. This hybrid role requires you to work on-site 3 times a week and involves mentoring team members while delivering on key performance indicators.

Hybrid: This position requires you to work on-site 3 times a week (Tue to Thu)

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
  • You will lead, manage, and mentor a group of Designers and Design Technical Specialist(s). We expect you to lead a team with members who possess diverse skill sets and have similar overall objectives. Typically leads other individual contributors and at times leads other people leaders.
  • Your responsibilities will also include:
  • Advanced knowledge and broad experience in the areas led, with the ability to identify and leverage experts in different specialized fields.
  • Own a distinct business area within the function. Serves as a resource to their team for technical expertise, interaction with other teams and departments, and company policies and processes. Guides direct reports and their teams on scoping out complex problems and developing creative and innovative solutions to the issues.
  • Drive change and develop new policies and processes in support of functional and company strategies.
  • Exercise independent judgement and influence on key technical decisions within their area(s). Develops operational plans and establishes objectives for the team, allocates resources and delegates assignments.
  • Translate strategies into clear direction for their team. Reprioritizing and reallocating resources as appropriate based on changing business needs. Offers direction to subordinates in accordance with established company policies.
  • Enforce company policies that directly impact subordinate employees. Resolve competing demands, sensitive situations, and conflicts within their organization and/or with other teams.
  • Develop plans for people resources and ensures that team members are continuing to grow their skills and competencies. Have continued career discussions with their team and knows where to allocate resources based on unique strengths of everyone on the team.
  • Regularly engage with subordinates, customers, and/or professionals in the same functional peer group to address issues spanning multiple sections and units. Demonstrate effective communication skills in conveying results and recommendations across different disciplines.
  • Expertly adapt communication style and uses persuasion and occasionally negotiation to convince others to accept new ideas, approaches, concepts, or practices. Deal with the situations where differing opinions, past practices or experiences may significantly constrain agreement.
  • Drive strategy and implementation of large projects impacting multiple departments.
  • Be accountable for workforce planning, operational and often financial decisions in the area managed.
  • Set objectives and owns the delivery of metrics and Key Performance Indicators that have direct impact on the achievement of the results in the job area, have measurable contribution into functional results and align with the GM strategic priorities.
  • Champion change management and role models GM’s behaviors necessary to maintain a productive team without inhibiting individuality and personal diversity. Influences others within and/or outside the organization that are skeptical or unwilling to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches.
  • Build a team with the optimal mix of talent and experience. Make internal and external staffing decisions, supports, and guides individual development of direct reports and their teams, drives performance.
Key Competencies:
  • You will directly oversee activities of Engine/Vehicle Designers and Design Technical Specialists to carry out day to day operations of Computer-aided Design
  • Work closely with GEDO leadership to precisely execute designs on time and participate in departmental meetings
  • You will work with other Operations Groups, Program and Product Teams
  • Attend Business meetings as required

Other responsibilities include:
  • Furnish day-to-day Design/Records & Release interfaces
  • Work with Analysis groups and ensure on time delivery of designs
  • You will work on data integrity/quality, Work Order visibility
  • You will audit performance to tasks, ensure tasks are complete and processes are followed
  • Establish workload priorities, workload Balancing
  • Ensure consistency to Timing Plan
  • Be a forward-thinking regarding Design role in the organization
  • You will provide solutions to issues and implement solutions
  • Investigate, research and pilot proposed changes
  • You will work hand in hand with global counterparts and participate in harmonization activities
  • You will collaborate with Suppliers, Advanced Design, Balance Architecture and Vehicle Design groups and others partners that collaborate with the group
  • Work with Methods & Processes group to continually investigate opportunities to improve effectiveness and efficiency of the processes
  • Translate business objectives to actionable deliverables for your work group
  • Execute and support GM initiatives
  • Perform Human Resource Management activities
  • You will mentor, coach and develop employees and their careers as well as model and champion desired core values and behaviors
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Engineering graduation completed
  • Deep Experience and knowledge on softwares: NX / TcAE / VisMockup
  • English advanced level
  • Active CREA
