About Memory Ware
Memory Ware is a fully remote studio, born to sustainably create video games designed with a player‑first philosophy, crafting compelling stories and experiences that create lasting, core memories for players.
We are a self‑funded studio in the early stages of development on a new JRPG project. If you're eager to help create a healthy and fun work environment alongside a highly experienced team, you'll feel right at home with us.
What You’ll Do
- Lead UX thinking across major systems, ensuring that core mechanics (e.g. combat, dungeons, item use, turn management) feel intuitive, satisfying, and player‑first.
- Design flows, wireframes, and interaction prototypes to support key experiences, not just interfaces.
- Collaborate with designers to improve the feel and clarity of core game mechanics.
- Identify friction points across the entire gameplay loop and propose smart, genre‑aware solutions.
- Bridge the Design Team with other teams to ensure that visual and technical execution supports both usability and emotional tone.
- Use tools like Figma, Miro and Unity to develop and communicate UX intent and build low‑fidelity prototypes to build confidence on our systems.
- Research and document genre conventions (especially JRPGs), identifying good practices and opportunities for innovation.
- Help define usability testing plans and translate feedback into actionable iterations.
- Advocate for accessibility, clarity, and joy in every part of the game.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience as a senior or lead UI/UX designer on at least one shipped game or app.
- A portfolio demonstrating strong visual design, user flows, and UX strategy.
- Experience working directly with engineers and shipping UI in a game engine (ideally Unity).
- Experience designing UX in game development, ideally on games with layered systems and mechanics.
- A player‑first mindset: design with emotional clarity, pacing, and flow in mind.
- Strong UX fundamentals: flow design, interaction principles, usability best practices.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to explain reasoning, take feedback, and build alignment.
- Comfort owning initiatives and proactively improving player experience across disciplines.
- Passion for system‑heavy or narrative‑rich games, especially RPGs, strategy, or adventure titles.
Bonus Points For
- Experience designing for console or controller‑first games.
- Motion design or interaction design skills for feedback and transitions.
- Game design literacy and ability to engage in design discussions beyond UX.
- Familiarity with accessibility design for games.
