Role Definition:

Caterpillar’s Enterprise Asset Management team is seeking a seasoned and driven Team Lead to oversee operations for our Software Asset Management as a Service (SAMaaS) initiative. This leadership role involves managing a team of SAM analysts, shaping strategic direction based on workload and demand, and ensuring the seamless delivery of application updates with minimal disruption to end users. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in application installation and removal across both PC and server environments, proficiency in Postscript and Python, and a forward‑thinking approach to threat mitigation through efficient application lifecycle.

What you will do:
  • Lead and mentor a team of SAM analysts, fostering growth, accountability, and technical excellence.
  • Develop and execute the SAMaaS strategy in alignment with organizational goals and evolving business needs.
  • Oversee daily operations related to application installation and removal, ensuring responsiveness to demand and minimal disruption.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Software Asset Management, Software Compliance, Hardware Asset Management, Cybersecurity, and business units to manage applications, assume ownership where feasible, and swiftly mitigate vulnerabilities.
  • Deliver high‑quality reporting and metrics that reflect SAMaaS performance and strategic progress, tailored for executive and leadership review.
  • Maintain strong industry relationships through active engagement with asset management communities and peer networks.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance processes, tools, platforms, and methodologies to drive operational efficiency and innovation.
  • Champion automation and integration of application lifecycle activities across diverse operating systems and platforms.
Skills:
  • Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Technology Advising: Knowledge of effective advisory methods and ability to provide valued information and advice to clients regarding products, technologies, services and solutions for a specific technology domain.
  • Emerging Technologies: Knowledge of emerging technologies; ability to design, apply and evaluate new information technologies for business environments.
  • Hardware Infrastructure: Knowledge of computer architecture and systems programming; ability to design, build and integrate IT hardware into multi‑platforms for the organization.
  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non‑functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
  • Systems Software Infrastructure: Knowledge of computer architecture and system software interaction; ability to design and build a fundamental architecture of operating systems, database management systems, communications protocols, compilers and other development tools.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.
  • Technical Writing/Documentation: Knowledge of technical writing; ability to write technical documents such as manuals, reports, guidelines or documents on standards, processes and applications.
Basic requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience in a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in asset management, desktop or server administration, or similar technical roles.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience, with a proven ability to guide and develop high‑performing teams.
  • Technical proficiency in Postscript, Python, ServiceNow, Power Automate, Power BI, and Flexera.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and report‑writing skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights.
Top candidates will also have:
  • Writing and optimizing SQL queries
  • Working with Snowflake and understanding its integration with Flexera and ServiceNow APIs
  • Experience with Batch Patch for patch management
  • Applying AI automation techniques to streamline operations
  • Familiarity with BeyondInsight for vulnerability management

Note: This position requires the candidate to work onsite five days a week.
