What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):

• Recommend grants to advance technical research aimed at reducing catastrophic risks from AI
• Evaluate technical grant applications and iterate with potential grantees on research ideasMaintain knowledge of important developments in AI capabilities and safety research
• Develop strong relationships with key AI safety researchers and communicate funding strategies
• Share feedback and manage relationships with grantees through written and verbal communication

What is Required (Qualifications):

• Familiarity with AI safety and clear views on catastrophic risks from transformative AI
• Technical literacy to evaluate proposals for feasibility and potential contributions
• Strong judgment to identify important considerations and form holistic perspectives
• High productivity with conscientious and organized work habits
• Exceptional communication skills, avoiding buzzwords and providing transparent reasoning

How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):

• 0.5-2 years of relevant experience in technical AI safety, such as research or mentorship programs
• Established expertise in technical AI safety with 2-4 years of related experience
• Published research in the field of technical AI safety, especially for senior roles
• Experience managing relationships with grantees or significant stakeholders
• Proven ability to autonomously manage large projects or grantmaking strategies
