We are looking for a full-time, remote Senior Full Stack Engineer with 5+ years of back-end software development experience, a strong background in Node.js, and experience using AI code generation tools to join the engineering team of our U.S. client. Working closely with product stakeholders, you will play an integral role in building an industry-leading product. The client is focused on greater AI-first development, so a significant part of your role will involve designing and implementing AI-driven features using AI-first development techniques. This includes leveraging prompt engineering to optimize the client’s AI models and utilizing cutting-edge tools, such as Cursor and Copilot, to enable smarter development.

As a Sr. Software Engineer, your job is to work between the front-end and product teams to create, publish, and develop clean software. You’ll create software that facilitates veterinarian-patient communication and reduces the burden on clinic staff! You must see the big picture of where the client is going and fill in the gaps. Do you actively integrate AI tools and techniques into your daily engineering workflow? Do you support thoughtful discussions and challenge existing ideas? Share what you know, learn what you don't.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new applications and features
• Build and enhance advanced applications using Node.js
• Design and implement AI-first features using LLMs (e.g., OpenAI, Claude)
• Integrate and leverage AI development tools like Cursor and Copilot
• Provide estimates for features, bug fixes, upgrades, and new projects
• Participate in clearly and concisely documenting applications and custom-built frameworks
• Write automated unit and feature tests enabling continuous delivery of your great work
• Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new technologies (especially AI-related) to maximize development efficiency
• Support other teammates through good communication and feedback during code reviews
• See the big picture and support the client’s mission of facilitating better pet care

Required Experience

• Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills
• 5+ years of engineering experience working on consumer-facing (B2C or B2B), high-volume, commercial software products and services
• 3+ years of experience with Node.js, Express, and TypeScript (bonus)
• Proven expertise in prompt engineering for various AI models
• Regular use of AI tools like Copilot, Cursor, or others to streamline development is preferred
• A curiosity to explore how you can improve your workflow using AI
• Experience with object-oriented programming patterns
• Experience with scaling and performance improvement
• Knowledge of both relational and non-relational database systems (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB)
• High execution mindset while balancing the risk vs costs vs timeline
• Proven history of delivering production-ready applications promptly
• Experience creating and consuming API's (preferably with GraphQL)
• Familiarity with AWS cloud services (server setup a bonus)
• Team player eager to learn from and mentor others
• Proven delivery experience in a vibrant, dynamic startup environment
• A collaborative approach, a can-do attitude, and a relentless pursuit to attain goals and solve problems
• Trustworthy, team-oriented, and transparent

Desired Experience

• University degree or relevant industry experience (optimally a technical or engineering degree)
• Strong experience with AI-first development methodologies
