What You Will Do

Ascension is seeking a highly skilled and strategic leader to serve as Senior Director, Operations, Portfolio & Program Management within the Growth Marketing & Digital Experience (GMDx) organization. Reporting directly to the Vice President, GMDx Strategy & Operations, this role is responsible for optimizing budget management, operational processes, and portfolio execution across Marketing and Digital functions.

The Senior Director will lead GMDx Operations and stand up a formal Portfolio & Program Management function, ensuring strategic prioritization, disciplined execution, and measurable value delivery. This leader will oversee a team of 10–14 FTEs and partner closely within GMDx, and Strategy, Finance, IT, and Market stakeholders to advance organizational effectiveness and accelerate growth.

The successful candidate will combine financial acumen, operational expertise, and digital and marketing leadership with deep experience in program/portfolio methodologies (SAFe, Agile, Waterfall) and tools. They must be able to operate at both the strategic and tactical levels, shaping the long-term portfolio while guiding execution in the details.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Stewardship

  • Lead annual Capital (CapEx) and Operating (OpEx) budget processes across Marketing and Digital.
  • In partnership with Ascension Finance, share monthly project and program financial analysis, forecasting, and variance reporting to inform resource allocation and decision-making.

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee invoicing, contracting, provisioning, onboarding, and departmental operations functions.
  • Build scalable processes to improve efficiency and reduce administrative friction across GMDx.

Portfolio & Program Leadership

  • Stand up and operationalize the Portfolio Management Office and PMO functions (PPMO).
  • Define and implement portfolio governance, prioritization, and progress-tracking frameworks.
  • Pilot and scale improved ways of working across the department, integrating SAFe, Waterfall, and hybrid models.
  • Establish standardized intake, evaluation, and decision-rights processes to ensure transparent prioritization and value realization across the portfolio.
  • Develop performance dashboards and reporting cadences to provide executive visibility into portfolio health, dependencies, and delivery velocity.

Tooling & Reporting

  • Evaluate and implement program/portfolio management tools (e.g., JIRA Align, Smartsheet, Asana) to improve visibility and reporting.
  • Deliver clear, executive-ready dashboards and performance reporting.

Change Management & Communication

  • Drive adoption of new operating models and ensure adherence across teams.
  • Partner with leadership to engage stakeholders, communicate priorities, and manage cross-functional change.

Team Leadership

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of 12–14 FTEs.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency with 5 years of applicable cumulative job specific experiencerequired, with 2 of those years being in leadership/management OR Associate's degree/Bachelor'sdegree with 3 years of applicable cumulative job specific experience required, with 2 of those yearsbeing in leadership/management.
Additional Preferences
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, marketing, finance, operations, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in operations, portfolio, or program management, preferably in large, matrixed organizations.
  • Proven expertise in managing budgets, financial processes, and operational governance.
  • Deep knowledge of program/portfolio management methodologies (SAFe, Agile, Waterfall) and demonstrated success in value stream management.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills; ability to connect strategy with execution.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence across disciplines and leadership levels.
  • Track record of effective change management and cross-functional leadership.
  • Experience leading high-performing teams and developing talent.
