Job summary

GeorgiaTEK Systems Inc. is seeking a Senior Database & Automation Engineer to manage SQL Server databases across on‑prem and AWS environments.

You will design highly available solutions, migrate databases to AWS, and develop IaC with Terraform to automate provisioning and DR processes. Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Database & Automation Engineer with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server administration, database migration, AWS cloud infrastructure, Terraform, and automation. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing SQL Server databases across on-premises data centers and AWS cloud environments, developing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions, and automating database operations using Python and configuration management tools.

This role will focus on database lifecycle management, high availability, disaster recovery, cloud migrations, infrastructure provisioning, security patching, and operational automation to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable database services.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage, administer, and support Microsoft SQL Server databases across on-premises data centers and AWS cloud environments.
• Design, implement, and maintain highly available database solutions using SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and other high-availability technologies.
• Plan and execute database migrations from on-premises environments to AWS, including Amazon RDS for SQL Server where applicable.
• Develop, maintain, and optimize reusable Terraform modules for database infrastructure provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to automate and standardize database infrastructure deployment across environments.
• Develop and maintain Python scripts, automation playbooks, and workflows for database provisioning, deployment, migration, patching, upgrades, and routine maintenance.
• Execute database upgrades, version migrations, client upgrades, and database lifecycle management activities.
• Implement database security patches, address vulnerabilities, and ensure compliance with organizational security standards.
• Manage database backup, restoration, disaster recovery, replication, and business continuity processes.
• Monitor and troubleshoot database performance, availability, capacity, and connectivity issues.
• Integrate database operations and automation workflows with ServiceNow to support incident management, change management, and service requests.
• Utilize configuration management and automation tools to improve operational efficiency and consistency.
• Collaborate with cloud, infrastructure, application, DevOps, and security teams to deliver reliable and scalable database services.
• Document database architectures, automation procedures, operational standards, migration plans, and recovery processes.

Required Technical Skills

• Expertise in SQL Server performance tuning, troubleshooting, backup, recovery, and maintenance.
• Experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups and high-availability/disaster recovery solutions.
• Knowledge of SQL Server migration, replication, and database upgrade technologies.
• Experience migrating databases from on-premises environments to AWS cloud platforms.
• Hands-on experience with AWS database services, particularly Amazon RDS for SQL Server.
• Strong expertise in Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Experience developing, maintaining, and managing reusable Terraform modules.
• Proficiency in Python scripting and infrastructure/database automation.
• Experience with automation playbooks, configuration management tools, and workflow automation.
• Experience with database security patching, vulnerability assessment, and remediation.
• Working knowledge of ServiceNow, including incident and change management workflows.
• Experience supporting hybrid cloud database environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience automating database provisioning and lifecycle management using Terraform and Python.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems for managing infrastructure code.
• Experience with AWS infrastructure automation and cloud migration best practices.
• Knowledge of infrastructure monitoring, logging, and operational alerting.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with distributed technical teams.
