X-Team is seeking a Contract Data Engineer to build data pipelines and models powering player experiences across client, mobile apps, and web properties.
You will design scalable data pipelines, lead Grant vs. Spend initiatives, and collaborate with backend engineers to integrate telemetry and ensure data quality and security. Expect ownership of mission-critical data systems and mentoring junior engineers.
The Mission
As a Contract Data Engineer on this team, you will build the data pipelines and models that power out-of-game experiences across the client, mobile apps, and web properties.
The Role
- Platform Data Services: Design and optimize scalable data pipelines that support cross-portfolio player features.
- Grant vs. Spend & CAP: Lead development for the Grant vs. Spend initiative and support CAP (Content Authorization) catalog data systems.
- Collaborative Engineering: Work with backend engineers and product teams to integrate telemetry and engagement data seamlessly.
- Data Integrity: Build and maintain reusable data marts that provide high-quality, audit-ready data for platform insights.
- Security & Privacy: Ensure all data solutions adhere to global player data privacy and security standards.
The Must-Haves
- Experience: 5+ years of professional Data/Software Engineering experience.
- Core Languages: Expertise in Python and SQL is mandatory.
- Data Stack: Deep experience with PySpark, Airflow, and DBT.
- Platforms: High proficiency in Databricks and cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP).
- System Design: Proven ability to build mission-critical data systems from the ground up, including requirement gathering and production-ready architecture.
- Mentorship: Experience guiding junior engineers and establishing high standards for code quality and documentation.
- Ability to overlap 6 hs with PST.
The "Bonus" Skills
- Transactional Data: Experience with business analytics or finance-adjacent data fields — highly relevant for Grant vs. Spend work.
- Polyglot Skills: Familiarity with Java or Scala for navigating platform backend services.
- Orchestration: Hands-on experience with Airflow for complex automation and scheduling.
- Test Strategy: Experience collaborating with software engineers on test plans for data pipelines.
- Reliability-Minded: You treat data correctness and pipeline uptime as non-negotiable foundations, not afterthoughts.
- Precision-Driven: You understand that if a Grant vs. Spend pipeline fails, it creates real operational and player-experience issues — you take that seriously.
- Systems Thinker: You see how data flows across complex cross-platform environments and design with the full picture in mind.
- Ownership-Oriented: You take full responsibility for the pipelines you build — observable, maintainable, and production-grade.
- Collaborative Builder: You work closely with backend engineers and product teams to ensure integrations are seamless and well-documented.
- Pragmatic & Thorough: You balance speed with rigor, knowing when to move fast and when to slow down to get it right.
