Job description

Shape the future of automation as a Process Control & Simulation Engineer

Do you enjoy turning complex automation requirements into reliable project deliveries? Join our Automation Systems team in Sorocaba and deliver DCS and OTS projects for customers in the pulp, paper, energy, and process industries. You will connect technical implementation with project planning, quality, testing, commissioning, and customer acceptance. You will also work directly with customers and diverse project stakeholders while building hands-on experience with DCS technology and advanced real-time simulators.

Your responsibilities

Lead technical delivery for DCS and OTS projects, including automation system design, configuration, commissioning, and project documentation. Plan schedules, assess risks and opportunities, manage changes, and review quality milestones in line with the project execution model and customer contracts. Connect the DCS and OTS project teams, keeping customers, the Project Manager, the Coordinator, Sales, and other stakeholders aligned with timely information. Prepare, perform, and supervise engineering, data communication links, hardware and software definitions, I/O and functional tests, troubleshooting, and customer acceptance tests (iFAT, cFAT, and SAT). Support customer training, project feedback meetings, and Sales analysis of customer requirements and existing constraints.

Expectations for you

You have an M.Sc. degree in Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, or a similar field, plus relevant work experience. You understand DCS, SCADA, PLC, or OTS architectures and have practical experience with automation programming languages. You know network structures, topologies, and industrial protocols such as Profibus, Profinet, Modbus, OPC UA, OPC DA, IEC, and Ethernet/IP. You are fluent in written and spoken English. Spanish skills and process knowledge in pulp, paper, or energy are advantages. You are willing to travel for business up to 50% of working time and are available to reside in Sorocaba, SP.

To succeed in this role

You take ownership of project responsibilities and organize your work with care. You solve problems independently while collaborating closely with others and asking for help when needed. Clear communication, ethical judgment, commitment, and a proactive approach will help you deliver quality results for customers and project teams.

We also expect you to align with Valmet’s Leadership Principles - practical behaviours that guide how we lead, collaborate, and succeed together:

We offer

You will join a project environment that brings DCS and OTS engineering together around successful customer deliveries. The work covers technical implementation, project planning, quality reviews, testing, commissioning, and training. You will collaborate with Project Managers, Coordinators, Sales, project groups, customers, and other stakeholders. The team serves customers in the pulp, paper, energy, and process industries. You will contribute to customer success while helping projects meet schedule, cost, quality, and technical expectations. You will also have the opportunity to work with current DCS technology and advanced real-time simulators. We offer a dynamic, team-oriented work environment that values innovation, learning, and contribution. This role provides opportunities for personal development while allowing you to contribute directly to the organization’s and customers’ success.
