A leading research organization in Brazil invites applications for postdoctoral positions in algebraic combinatorics and fundamental physics. Candidates will work on cutting-edge topics and can expect a competitive salary and generous benefits. The role includes conducting research, collaboration, and contributing to the Unit's intellectual life. Applications are open until filled, with a starting date as early as April 2026.
The Algebraic Combinatorics and Fundamental Physics Unit, led by Matteo Parisi, investigates new combinatorial and geometric structures underlying quantum field theory. The group seeks to elucidate how scattering amplitudes and quantum observables arise from total positivity and positive geometry, connecting algebraic combinatorics, algebraic geometry, and high‑energy physics.
We invite applications for postdoctoral positions to join this interdisciplinary program. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work on topics such as cluster algebras, amplituhedra, Landau analysis, Feynman integrals, and related aspects of algebraic combinatorics and geometry in fundamental physics and cosmology. Candidates from pure or applied mathematics, theoretical physics, and related areas are encouraged to apply. Appointments are expected to commence in or after April 2026 and are offered for two years with the possibility of renewal. The positions are particularly suited for researchers—whether early in their career or more senior—seeking to develop an independent research profile at the interface of mathematics and physics.
OIST provides an exceptionally well‑resourced and supportive environment—including generous research‑travel funds, relocation and housing allowances, and comprehensive assistance with administrative and daily‑life matters. Its modern campus, set amid the natural beauty of Okinawa, hosts an inclusive and vibrant international community and offers a unique cultural experience within Japan.
We value diversity in all its forms and encourage applications from candidates of any background, particularly those traditionally under‑represented in mathematics and physics, including women+, LGBTIQ+ individuals, and scholars from diverse socio‑economic and cultural backgrounds.
