High School - Optimal Learning Services Teacher

Primary Purpose of the Position: The Optimal Learning Services (OLS) Teacher provides individualized and small-group instruction to support neurodivergent students within a framework of Multi-tiered System of Support (MTSS).

The OLS Teacher collaborates closely with homeroom and subject teachers, parents, and external specialists to design and implement strategies that promote access to the curriculum, foster independence, and build on students’ strengths in alignment with the school’s mission and values.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct support to students with identified learning needs through individualized, small-group, and in-class instruction.
  • Assess student strengths, challenges, and progress using a variety of diagnostic, formative, and summative tools.
  • Develop and monitor Student Support Plans (SSPs) and Accommodation Plans (APs).
  • Meet and/or communicate with teachers to advise on how to best support student needs and ensure that teachers understand the recommended classroom practices and required accommodations in the student's SSP or AP.
  • Provide consultation, resources, and professional learning to faculty regarding inclusive practices and learning strategies.
  • Communicate regularly with parents to share progress, strategies, and recommendations.
  • Foster a positive, safe, and student-centered learning environment that promotes resilience, independence, and self-advocacy.
  • Participate actively in student support team meetings and multidisciplinary case meetings.
  • Contribute positively to the school’s K - 12 OLS team.
  • Maintain records and documentation as required by school policies and procedures.
  • Engage in professional learning to remain current in the fields of special education, inclusion, and learning support.
  • Monitor student academic progress using data from classroom performance, standardized assessments, and teacher input.
  • Design and document approved curriculum modifications when necessary.
  • Lead or co-facilitating SST meetings.
  • Collect and organize learning data to inform decision-making.
  • Communicate with the student’s external provider(s) if it is deemed necessary.
  • Collaborate with counselors and the Director of Student Support services (DSS) to review and interpret external evaluations.
Certifications and Education - Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or related field.
  • Valid teaching certification/license with specialization in special education or learning support.
Desired
  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Inclusive Education, or related field.
  • Additional certification in specific learning intervention programs
Experience - Required
  • Minimum of two years of classroom classroom or learning support teaching experience
  • Demonstrated experience supporting students with a variety of learning profiles, including learning differences, and social communication challenges.
Desired
  • Experience working in an international or multicultural school setting.
  • Background in co-teaching or collaborative instructional models.
  • Experience with assistive technology and learning support tools, including AI.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Required
