THE POSITION
Reporting to the Senior Volunteer Manager – FIFA27, the Volunteer Communications & Engagement Manager will play a central role in shaping, delivering, and elevating the end-to-end communications and engagement strategy for the FIFA Volunteer Programme across eight Host Cities within the Integrated Model.
The purpose of this role is to oversee the development, coordination, and execution of all volunteer-related communications and engagement initiatives. This includes creating and implementing the overall communications plan, leading launch and promotional campaigns, managing key milestones, and delivering a structured and aligned content plan across both internal and external channels to ensure consistent and impactful communication. The successful candidate will also drive the engagement strategy covering activations such as the trophy tour, ambassador participation, mascot appearances, and partner-related activities to further build motivation, visibility, and community among volunteers.
This role will collaborate closely with the Volunteer Management team in FIFA Zurich, eight Host Cities in Brazil, the Brand and Marketing teams, external agencies, and other Functional Areas to ensure consistent, high‑quality messaging and impactful engagement touchpoints throughout the volunteer journey. This will include all touch points from launch to internal communication to volunteers.
We are seeking an experienced communications professional with a proven track record in managing complex, large‑scale communications campaigns for events and in designing informative, motivating, and culturally relevant engagement initiatives to lead the Volunteer Programme communications for diverse volunteer audiences (local and international) from the application phase through tournament‑time. The ideal candidate understands mindset of volunteer, can translate local context into global communications frameworks, has experience in large‑scale event delivery and thrives in a dynamic, multicultural environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the development and implementation of the FWWC27 Volunteer Communications & Engagement Strategy including the initial launch of the volunteer programme,
- Ensure alignment with FIFA Women's World Cup strategy, FIFA’s global volunteer communications and engagement strategy, brand guidelines, and tournament timelines
- Act as the primary liaison with FIFA Zurich, FIFA 27, Host Cities, and external agencies on topics related to communications and engagement.
- Deliver key communication and engagement milestones from planning, recruitment through to tournament‑time and post‑event legacy.
- Co‑lead communications related to the volunteer launch campaign, including messaging, creative briefs, KPIs, and rollout.
- Draft and prepare engaging written, visual and digital content (in English and Portuguese) throughout the full journey for the volunteer platform, website, social media, FAQs, newsletters, volunteer support channel and operational communications.Right to work in Brazil.
- Identify opportunities to highlight the Volunteer Programme via Media and Public Relations support.
- Coordinate and integrate Host Country communications and messaging into a unified, coherent strategy that reflects the tournament's values, brand, and legacy objectives.
- Provide Host Cities with communication toolkits, guidelines, and templates.
- Ensure messaging consistency, accuracy, cultural relevance and crisis communication when required.
- Ensure all internal and external messaging supports programme goals, celebrates volunteer contributions, and strengthens volunteer satisfaction and retention.
- Oversee end‑to‑end planning and delivery of assigned communications projects, ensuring alignment between internal teams, host cities, external agencies, and other key partners.
- Manage external stakeholders and agencies, defining requirements, providing clear briefs, aligning expectations, and ensuring an efficient end‑to‑end RFP process.
- Lead development and execution of volunteer engagement initiatives including but not limited to trophy tour activations, ambassador and mascot appearances, partner‑related activities and tournament time engagement activities in volunteer centres.
- Prepare and deliver communication and engagement how‑to materials, for FIFA27 and Host City team members to understand how to deliver communication and engagement deliverables.
- Act as the liaison with Marketing, Brand & Communications teams to ensure consistency in brand, messaging, and tone, while providing cross‑functional support to other divisions including Digital, Media Relations, Content Production, and Event Communications.
- Track and report performance of communications campaigns, content reach, engagement levels, and activation impact.
- Provide regular updates to the Senior Volunteer Manager and FIFA27 top management and work closely with the FIFA Zurich team to ensure alignment with the global FIFA Volunteer Programme strategy.
- Capture lessons learned and feed them into continuous improvement for future events.
YOUR PROFILE
- Minimum 5+ years of communications experience, preferably within major events or large‑scale volunteer programmes.
- University degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Business or related field.
- Masters in Sports Management or Event Management is an asset.
- Proven experience in delivering FIFA tournaments, major sports events or other international events is advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to craft clear, engaging messages.
- Creative thinking with a keen sense for storytelling and brand innovation.
- Proven expertise in content creation, social media strategy, and media relations.
- Familiarity with volunteer management systems and related IT tools is a plus.
- Strong project management skills with experience delivering campaigns or large‑scale communication plans.
- Comfortable working with creative tools and platforms (e.g., Adobe Suite, CMS/web design platforms, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Audacity. Additional qualification in web design or animation is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate across departments and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated success in delivering audience engagement strategies and activation events.
- Experience working in multicultural environments; knowledge of Brazil/South America sport and cultural ecosystem is an advantage.
