Laravel Engineer with MySQL Tuning Experience (Remote, LATAM)

Bluelight is a leading software consultancy dedicated to designing and developing innovative technology. We are expanding and seeking a skilled Laravel Engineer who can contribute to fast-paced, high-quality projects and help optimize database performance in large-scale applications.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Laravel-based applications (Laravel 8+), with a focus on scalable architecture.
• Analyze, optimize, and debug complex SQL queries; optimize performance using EXPLAIN plans, indexing strategies (including composite indexes), and query rewriting techniques.
• Design and optimize MySQL database schemas for scalability and data integrity in high-volume, multi-tenant SaaS environments.
• Work with Eloquent ORM and Laravel Query Builder; understand how generated SQL impacts performance and optimize accordingly.
• Build robust, scalable RESTful APIs in Laravel emphasizing performance and data efficiency.
• Implement robust security practices in backend systems, including Laravel authentication.
• Participate in testing with Pest PHP and PHPUnit to ensure code quality and reliability.
• Collaborate with frontend (e.g., ReactJS) when needed and contribute to project planning and estimation.
• Take ownership of deliverables, align with client goals, and maintain commitments to timelines and quality.
• Contribute to a collaborative, growth-oriented team environment and stay current with industry best practices.

Qualifications

• Experience with Eloquent ORM and Laravel Query Builder; understanding of how these tools generate SQL and how to optimize them.
• Experience with complex, large-scale multi-tenant SaaS applications.
• Solid experience with Laravel authentication and backend security practices.
• Experience with testing tools such as Pest PHP and PHPUnit.
• Proficiency in designing and implementing robust RESTful APIs in Laravel.
• Experience with ReactJS is a plus.
