A leading agricultural company in Brazil seeks an experienced R&D Head to lead teams in advancing crop research. You will oversee operational excellence, drive innovation in plant breeding, and ensure alignment with commercial strategies. The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding or Genetics and has significant experience in R&D environments. Proficiency in English and either Spanish or Portuguese is required for effective communication in this role.

As Brazil R&D Head you will be leading the R&D teams in Brazil and ensure we do cutting edge R&D and continue to develop and deliver market leading products and strengthen our market position. You will provide overall leadership and ensure successful delivery for Syngentas Corn and Soy Seeds R&D especially in the areas of technical strategy technology and traits strategy program management talent capability and organization establishment partnering strategy and development and senior stakeholder management for both internal and external relations. You will represent R&D as member of Brazil Field Crops Leadership Teams.

Role overview
  • Define develop and build an effective and future oriented organizational structure to meet the goals of R&D organization.
  • Drive professional development within the R&D organization to maintain leading skills in modern plant breeding methods.
  • Manage people management processes including performance management succession planning and talent management.
  • Operational Excellence
  • Ensure our breeding operations and trialing are the most efficient and continue to optimize unit cost by constantly and creatively looking for productivity.
  • Manage the operational and capex budgets with great discipline registrations used resources wisely to accelerate genetic gain and bring best products to market consistently and quickly.
  • Develop track and act on key leading performance indicators to make all our R&D related processes better reliable and efficient.
  • Technical Advancement
  • Ensure R&D goals correctly target our TPPs and the pipeline structure and projects are properly designed to deliver on goals.
  • Lead technical adoption of core enabling technology capabilities such as genomic selections phenomics data analytics and advanced breeding methods like Hi-Rez breeding to drive and enable the development of design‑driven products of the future.
  • Contribute to the development and lead the implementation of the strategy for trait delivery in Brazil providing strategic and technical direction and implementing a process to drive delivery of native GM or GE traits to the business.
  • Strategy Development and Execution
  • Drive connection with Brazil commercial organizations to align on core market growth(ed) areas and that corn pipeline growth is in line with commercial ambitions and related business goals.
  • Partner with commercial P&S and product management drive investments in capabilities and infrastructure to support the Corn R&D Strategy.
  • Actively contribute to the Seeds RDLT strategy development and execution.
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Partner closely with global Labelquality and applied teams to bring the best‑in‑class technologies tools and enable strategic germplasm introgression that balances germplasm security concerns with business needs рядом.
  • Work with key stakeholders in Marketing P&S and Commercial functions to maintain WoW processes and responsibilities which ensure end‑to‑end continuity and excellence in development and delivery of crops.

Qualifications
Essential for this position
  • Agronomist with a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding or Genetics or a related field.
  • Proven experience in contemporary global research and development environment
  • Solid understanding of latest advances in molecular breeding data analytics and precision phenotyping
  • Experience working successfully in international and cross‑functional teams to execute strategy
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to inspire team
  • Great track record of hiring influencing and developing talent
  • Fluent level of English
  • Fluent level of Spanish or Portuguese
Previous experience
  • Proven technical experience in relevant roles
  • People coaching and leading
  • Experience of complex technical portfolio/project management within the company with good cross functional collaboration capability.
