Grant Manager

Reports to: SrVP of Development and Strategic Initiatives

Summary of Position

Reporting to the SrVP of Development and Strategic Initiatives, the Grant Manager is responsible for managing the entire life-cycle of a grant: researching new funding opportunities, engaging with grant funders, working with hospital personnel on program needs and strategy, writing, editing and submitting grant proposals and then submitting final reports to the funder.

All of our Grant Managers work together, share contacts, and assist on system-wide grants.

This person works closely with Development staff at each of their assigned affiliate hospitals.

Major Responsibilities
  • Identifying corporations and foundations with an interest in funding healthcare in the state of New Jersey
  • Arranging face-to-face cultivation meetings with potential funders
  • Strengthening existing relationships and establishing long-term partnerships with the corporate and foundation sectors, as well as other key community partners
  • Meeting regularly with affiliate Vice Presidents and RWJBH corporate management to discuss hospital/system funding needs, upcoming RFPs, grant strategy, community partners, and grant writing timelines
  • Preparing proposal submission plans that outline key tasks, identifies key hospital priorities and primary program partners, details needed program information, and defines budgets and timeframes;
    • Drafts and edits proposal in cooperation with program staff and Foundation VP
    • Submits final grant proposal
    • Monitors applications through the approval process
    • Provides all requested grant information as required by corporate and foundation donors
  • Gathers information from program directors for inclusion in follow-up grant progress reports
  • Providing Major Gift Officers with program and clinical information that can be used for donor proposals; assist with writing when asked
  • Maintaining financial records on all RFPs submitted per affiliate and service line: amount submitted, awarded, pending, rejected, and grant period
  • Coordinating site visits between current funders and hospital program managers
  • Maintaining all grant information in Raisers Edge
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Masters preferred
  • Minimum of two years of grant writing experience preferably in a hospital/academic environment
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Experience in foundation research; knowledge of Raisers Edge a plus
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Commitment to accuracy, attention to detail, and strong time-management focus
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments and meet deadlines
  • Knowledge of Microsoft software applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience with online grant submission formats a plus
