Role Overview

Job Title: Founding Software Engineer / Head of Engineering (Path to CTO)

Department / Team: Engineering (sole technical founder)

Reason for Hiring: Need a technical leader to own and ship the entire stack for Pastorix’s virtual fencing product

Reports to: Laurenz (Domain & Product Co-Founder)

Team Size: 2 direct colleagues (Laurenz & Jeroen) – you will be the engineering team

Location & Working Model

Primary Location: Remote (Amsterdam preferred)

Alternative Offices: Munich, Amsterdam; field site in Paraguay

Remote / Hybrid / On-Site Policy: Remote-friendly with periodic on-site field work

Travel Requirements: ~30 % travel to Paraguay for product launches & testing

Key Responsibilities

• Own full technical stack: embedded firmware, cloud backend, iOS app
• Take over, iterate, and optimise existing STM32-based firmware
• Design & build cloud infrastructure from scratch (data, APIs, scalability)
• Create an iOS app usable by low-literacy ranch workers (UX, text-to-speech, visuals)
• Collaborate with hardware manufacturing partner on iterations & testing
• Leverage AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, Copilot) as core development partners
• Ship V1 to market in 2025 and drive continuous improvements & reliability

Ideal Candidate Profile

Must-Haves

• Strong software engineering fundamentals (any language)
• Heavy, demonstrated use of AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot)
• Systems thinking across firmware, cloud, and mobile
• iOS development experience (Swift/SwiftUI)
• UX obsession; ability to design for non-technical, low-literacy users
• Ability to ship complete products independently; 5+ years experience

Nice-to-Haves

• Embedded/firmware (C, STM32), LoRaWAN or other IoT protocols
• Cloud backend development (any modern stack)
• Hardware product exposure
• Spanish language skills; AgTech or livestock domain knowledge

Experience & Education

• Experience: Minimum 5 years software engineering with shipped products; quality over tenure
• Education: University degree not required
• Specific Tools/Technologies: AI coding tools, Xcode & Swift/SwiftUI, Git; Keil/STM32CubeIDE and IoT toolchains (nice-to-have)

Compensation

Base Salary Range: €40,000 – €120,000 (depends on equity split & track)

Variable/Bonus: None; significant equity vesting over 3 years (co-founder or founding-employee stake)
