Comp is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to join the first wave of technical delivery in client environments. You will write production code, configure integrations with HR systems, and tailor AI agents to each client context, aligning with Comp's engineering and executive teams.
Your work will directly impact NDR and expansion opportunities. You will prototype solutions, diagnose production issues, and contribute to core frameworks that scale client implementations globally.
This is a new and strategic role at Comp. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll be part of the first group responsible for redefining how we grow within our clients, getting hands on to build, configure, and adapt Comp's technology directly in each client's environment. You're the technical bridge between product and the client: you work side by side with HR Executives and AI Engineers, but you're the one who writes the code, configures the integration, or adjusts the agent that makes the solution work in practice.
Your objective is clear: drive Net Dollar Retention (NDR), making sure every technical delivery generates visible impact, runs reliably in production, and opens new paths for expansion.
You'll work closely with Comp's founding team and engineering team, helping shape how Comp's technology connects and scales within clients, setting the standard for what a world class implementation looks like.
Build and customize Comp's embedded presence at clients: write scripts, configure API integrations with the client's HR/HRIS systems, and adjust AI agents (prompts, flows, automations) to each company's specific context, in constant alignment with client stakeholders and Comp's internal team, not just observing but actually building the solution. Examples of what you might build: recommendation engines for clients, document processing pipelines, and integrations with internal systems.
Architect the client's technical journey: from the first deployment through expansion, rapidly prototyping solutions, validating them with real production data, and leading discussions with C level stakeholders on where Comp should go deeper technically.
Be the first technical line in production: autonomously diagnose and resolve issues that come up in the client's environment, debug, fix, and clearly communicate what happened and how it was resolved.
Influence product direction: translate technical learnings from the field (what worked, what didn't scale, which integration keeps coming up across clients) into Comp's engineering roadmap.
Act like a founder: build technical playbooks, reusable scripts, internal tools, and metrics that will define how Comp scales excellent implementations globally.
Think systemically when you're not 100% allocated to a client: contribute to the core framework that supports building custom apps, and improve the agentic flows that let us deliver these solutions more efficiently, accurately, and performantly at scale.
Ability to code and prototype: comfortable writing and reading production code (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar), not just in a testing environment.
Experience with APIs and systems integrations: consuming and building REST APIs, webhooks, authentication (OAuth), and connecting Comp to the client's HR/HRIS systems (e.g. Gupy, TOTVS, Workday, BambooHR, and similar).
Familiarity with generative AI and prompt engineering: configuring, testing, and tuning AI/LLM agents for specific tasks, with an understanding of the models' limitations, costs, and trade offs.
SQL and data manipulation: able to query, model, and validate data to support decisions and identify issues in production.
Comfortable in a terminal and version control (git) environment: deployment, log debugging, reading stack traces.
Knowledge of security and best practices in development and in handling clients' sensitive HR data.
Remote work model.
