About the Role
We are looking a talented and highly motivated Firmware Developer to take ownership of the design, development, and delivery of embedded firmware solutions that support our advanced subsea inspection and asset integrity technologies. As the primary firmware specialist within assigned projects, you will work across the full development lifecycle, from requirements capture and architecture through implementation, testing, validation, and field deployment. Working closely with hardware, software, and engineering teams, you will play a key role in ensuring reliable, high-performance embedded systems that support innovative subsea inspection solutions. Key Responsibilities
Firmware Engineering & Technical Delivery
- Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for microcontroller-based systems.
- Develop robust, efficient, and maintainable firmware solutions using C/C++.
- Implement and optimize communication interfaces and protocols including UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, and Ethernet.
- Develop low-level drivers, board support packages (BSPs), and integration layers.
- Debug, validate, and troubleshoot firmware using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, JTAG, and SWD debuggers.
- Lead firmware design decisions and make technical trade-offs to meet system and project requirements.
- Create and maintain technical specifications, interface documentation, and test procedures.
Project Collaboration & Delivery
- Work closely with hardware engineers, software developers, and project managers to deliver integrated solutions.
- Own firmware components and ensure delivery against project timelines.
- Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and code reviews.
- Support product integration, verification, and deployment activities.
Quality, Standards & Compliance
- Apply embedded software best practices and coding standards, including MISRA C principles where applicable.
- Ensure firmware complies with quality, cybersecurity, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Support structured testing, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to improving development workflows, testing strategies, and engineering processes.
Learning & Technical Leadership
- Continue developing expertise in embedded systems, RTOS, and embedded Linux environments.
- Share knowledge and provide informal mentorship through code reviews and technical discussions.
- Contribute reusable software components, internal tools, and technical documentation.
Field Support & HSE
- Support deployment, troubleshooting, and integration activities in operational environments.
- Follow company Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality requirements.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe and compliant working environment.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering, Embedded Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 2-5 years of experience in embedded firmware or low-level software development.
- Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems.
- Experience with memory management, concurrency, and direct hardware interaction.
- Experience developing for microcontrollers and embedded hardware platforms.
- Hands‑on experience with:
- Experience with debugging tools including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG/SWD debuggers.
- Familiarity with Git, build systems, and software validation processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Desirable
- Experience with RTOS and/or Embedded Linux.
- Knowledge of MISRA C and safety-critical software development.
- Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing.
- Experience with automated testing frameworks.
- Exposure to subsea, offshore, industrial, or electronic product development environments.
- Experience supporting deployed systems in operational environments.
