Purpose of the Job
Under the direction of the Field Service Manager, the Field Service Project Manager provides after‑sales field service. Coordinates the administrative, contractual, technical and commercial aspects of field service projects from inquiry to final billing and collection. Produces service income for Elliott Company. Responsible for multidisciplinary projects that involve multiple Elliott products and departments as well as non‑Elliott products. May supervise and provide project management at a customer’s site for installation, commissioning, overhaul, rerate/mods, and troubleshooting of Elliott and other OEM equipment. Must possess related engineering knowledge to direct projects from quote to commissioning and ensure execution within budget. Activities require independent action and decision‑making. Travel expected 50%.
Background / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field with 10‑15 years of field service project management experience, or equivalent education and experience in steam turbines, process compressors, steam turbine generators, and auxiliary equipment.
- Knowledge of industry standards, thermodynamic aptitude, mechanical aptitude for rotating machinery, and some system controls knowledge.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, blueprints, layouts, schedules, and write technical reports and work method statements.
- Familiar with all Elliott product lines and other manufacturers’ products.
- Capability to handle contractual, commercial and administrative aspects of field jobs in an international environment.
- Supervisory skills to direct and coordinate teams of 50 or more engineers/representatives and labor assigned to projects.
- Organized, self‑motivated, flexible, able to manage a wide variety of tasks, cultural diversity, health and safety systems, and contract forms.
- Good verbal and written communication skills. Profound knowledge of English.
- Computer skills: MS Office, MS Projects, Lotus Notes.
- Presentation and selling skills with field‑oriented background.
Specific Job Responsibilities / Competencies
- Handle all commercial, contractual and administrative aspects of Elliott and non‑Elliott projects.
- Execute work according to company quality and HSE management systems.
- Review project inquiries and coordinate with Sales, Field Service and other departments.
- Conduct site surveys for technical and commercial proposals.
- Prepare and issue technical proposals including work scope, project plan and manpower plan.
- Collect project cost data for Sales commercial proposals.
- Support Sales in presenting proposals to customers.
- Participate in meetings with customers during project implementation.
- Prepare risk assessments and rigging studies.
- Conduct internal order coordination meetings with stakeholders.
- Mobilize labor and material resources; supervise, coordinate and schedule subcontractors.
- Initiate project order entry and issue purchase orders.
- Track extras (working time, material).
- Perform internal project management and ensure safe work practices.
- Plan, detail technically and write work method statements.
- Brief team on commercial and technical details at project start.
- Manage projects within planned man‑hours and financial budgets.
- Initiate order amendment requests.
- Make courtesy calls to check inventories, promote parts sales, inspect shipments and sell service with sales engineer.
- Keep Field Service Manager informed on all work, quality, performance, equipment problems and customer reaction.
- Contribute new ideas to improve product design and service quality.
- Assist with rotating equipment training programs.
- Support all departmental activities as directed by Field Service Operations management.
- Investigate complex rotating equipment troubles and take corrective action.
- Resolve liability and validate customer claims.
- Prevent nonconformities and maintain quality system.
- Plan in advance to avoid delays and reduce losses; define problems rapidly and make critical decisions with upper management.
- Work in line with ISO 9001 Quality System; establish documentation requirements.
- Debrief team after project completion and initiate continuous improvement actions.
- Direct invoicing progress and monitor against milestones.
- Assist in collection of monies owed.
- Attend project close‑out or lessons‑learned meeting with customers.
- Self‑assess assignments for improvement.
- Inform aftermarket sales personnel on sales potential.
- Promote customer goodwill through effective communication and cooperation.
- Maintain warranty log.
- Make service reports promptly and fully with dates and names.
