Jobgether SRL, on behalf of a partner, seeks an IDMS Database Specialist based in Brazil to administer CA-IDMS databases on IBM z/OS. The role focuses on availability, security, and performance across critical mainframe systems.

You will work with development and infrastructure teams to troubleshoot complex issues and optimize data access, supporting seamless integration with mainframe applications.

Responsibilities

Accountabilities

• Administer, maintain, and provide technical support for CA-IDMS database management systems, ensuring availability, stability, security, and reliable operation within IBM z/OS mainframe environments.
• Monitor database performance and analyze queries, routines, access patterns, and system behavior across development, testing, and production environments.
• Identify performance bottlenecks and implement optimization strategies to improve database response times, resource utilization, and operational efficiency.
• Develop and recommend data modeling and structural improvements to support database architecture, optimize physical data access, and enhance overall performance.
• Manage database structures, schemas, subschemas, storage areas, and partitioning strategies to maintain data consistency and efficient access.
• Support the integration of CA-IDMS databases with mainframe applications, collaborating with development teams working with CICS, Enterprise COBOL, JCL, and VSAM files.
• Apply database administration practices involving DDL, DML, and DCL commands to support data definition, manipulation, access control, and operational requirements.
• Support the management of large volumes of data, including database partitioning, normalization, integrity validation, and resource optimization.
• Troubleshoot database incidents, investigate technical issues, and implement corrective and preventive measures to maintain service continuity.
• Use mainframe monitoring, scheduling, version control, and diagnostic tools to support operational control, performance analysis, and job execution.
• Contribute to database maintenance, reorganization, backup and recovery activities, and other procedures required to preserve data integrity and system reliability.
• Collaborate with technical teams to evaluate database-related risks, recommend improvements, and ensure that solutions align with enterprise architecture and operational standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field, or a degree in another discipline combined with a postgraduate qualification in Information Technology.
• Strong practical and theoretical knowledge of CA-IDMS database management systems.
• Experience with DDL, DML, and DCL commands and their application in database administration.
• Solid experience in relational data modeling, database performance analysis, and optimization techniques.
• Knowledge of database normalization, data consistency, table partitioning, and strategies for managing very large databases (VLDBs).
• Familiarity with IBM z/OS mainframe environments and utilities such as JCL, TSO, IDCAMS, and Sort.
• Experience integrating databases with CICS, Enterprise COBOL applications, and VSAM files.
• Knowledge of mainframe database monitoring, support, and version control tools, such as Endevor, MainView, Strobe, Control-M, Abend-Aid, File-Aid, or equivalent solutions.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to investigate complex database issues and implement effective technical solutions.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to database security, data integrity, system availability, and operational reliability.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with development, infrastructure, and other technical teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience with CA-IDMS/DB administration, including schema and subschema management, storage areas, physical access optimization, and partitioning.
• Familiarity with ADSO (Application Development System/Online) for developing and executing online transactions and interactive reports integrated with IDMS.
• Experience with IBM CICS transaction processing and its integration with CA-IDMS.
• Knowledge of Control-M for batch job scheduling and automation.
• Experience with CA Database Management utilities for DB2/IDMS, including database reorganization, REORG operations, backup, and recovery.
• Familiarity with DASS (Data Administration & Structuring Systems) tools for database volume reporting, pointer analysis, and IDMS network integrity checks.
• Basic knowledge of statistics, predictive models, and probabilistic analysis.
