OVERVIEW

At Alera Group, our people are our greatest strength — and the way we design, deliver, and care for our employee benefits reflects that belief. We’re looking for a Benefits Manager to lead the administration and continuous improvement of Alera Group’s internal benefits programs for our colleagues nationwide.

This is not a client-facing role — it’s an opportunity for an experienced HR professional who has managed benefits within a corporate HR or Total Rewards function. You’ll oversee all aspects of Alera Group’s benefit offerings for employees, ensuring they are competitive, compliant, and aligned with our culture of care.

This role is ideal for candidates located in the Eastern or Central Time zones, as you’ll collaborate regularly with HR leadership and teams during standard business hours.

Alera Group was founded in 2017 and has grown to become the 145th largest broker of U.S. business. We’re passionate about helping our clients — and our own people — thrive through collaboration, innovation, and care. With a network of offices nationwide, our commitment to teamwork allows us to offer national resources paired with personalized, local service.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This is a hands‑on leadership role where you’ll work closely with the VP of Total Rewards to manage and enhance Alera Group’s benefits offerings. You’ll lead a small team, partner with vendors and carriers, and ensure our benefits programs align with both business needs and colleague expectations.

  • If you’re energized by improving processes, delivering exceptional employee experiences, and using data and insights to guide decisions — this could be your next great move
  • Lead and oversee administration of all employee benefits programs, including health, dental, vision, life, disability, and retirement plans
  • Support and develop your team through coaching, feedback, and ongoing learning opportunities
  • Evaluate and recommend enhancements to benefit programs by benchmarking industry trends and analyzing plan performance
  • Partner with leadership to design cost‑effective, compliant, and engaging benefit solutions
  • Manage relationships with carriers and third‑party administrators to ensure quality service and accurate plan execution
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including ERISA, and oversee required reporting and filings
  • Drive communication — clearly and proactively — to help colleagues understand and make the most of their benefits
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or a related field
  • 5–7 years of benefits administration and leadership experience in a large or complex organization (or 10+ years of benefits management experience)
  • Deep knowledge of benefit plan design, policies, and legislation
  • Experience with retirement plans, including 401(k) and non‑qualified plans
  • Strong understanding of leave management and related employment law
  • Proficiency in HR systems and tools, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and mentor others
  • SHRM or similar HR certification preferred
