Darwin Recruitment seeks a Senior DevOps Engineer for a remote, 100% freelance engagement (12 months). You will spearhead migration to AWS, build internal tooling to accelerate code delivery, and support a WordPress-based platform at scale.

Ideal candidates bring 8+ years in high-traffic web apps, deep AWS serverless experience, TypeScript, and strong CI/CD expertise across AWS and third-party tools. Familiarity with AI-enabled development is a plus.

Job title – Senior DevOps Engineer

Project focus

Join a growing engineering team supporting a high-traffic consumer web platform as it migrates its infrastructure to AWS. You’ll help modernise and harden the systems that deliver the platform to customers, build internal tooling that speeds up how engineers ship code (including tooling that brings AI agents into the development and operations workflow), and support a WordPress-based site at scale.

Key skills and Experience required

• 8+ years deploying and supporting high-traffic, scalable web applications and services
• 5+ years working in an AWS serverless environment (Cognito, Lambda, Step Functions, DynamoDB)
• Strong TypeScript skills and hands‑on experience with the AWS CDK
• Proficient scripting ability (Linux/Unix shell, Python, Ruby, or similar)
• Hands‑on experience with configuration management and deployment tooling
• Strong CI/CD expertise across native AWS services and third‑party tools, including building pipelines and Git competency
• Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
• Experience defining multi‑account AWS strategies using Amazon Organizations
• Experience integrating SCM, code quality, code coverage, and testing tools into CI/CD pipelines
• Exposure to application and infrastructure monitoring tooling
• Comfortable forecasting AWS billing using the pricing calculator
• Practical experience working with AI coding agents and agentic engineering workflows as part of a modern delivery pipeline
• Familiarity with Spec Driven Development for implementation, testing, and AI agent behaviour
• Hands‑on experience with AWS services including Serverless, CDK, CloudFormation, CodePipeline, GitHub/GitHub Actions, Lambda/Step Functions, SQS, SNS, Kinesis, DynamoDB, EventBridge, X‑Ray, CloudWatch, WAF, and Lake Formation
• Experience with MySQL and Elasticsearch
• AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or AWS Certified Solutions Architect a plus
• Experience in a consumer‑focused technology company a plus
• Domain knowledge in automotive, two‑sided marketplaces, or e‑commerce a plus
