Accounting Specialist

Introduction to the Team

Our Corporate Functions are made up of teams that support Expedia Group, including Employee Communications, Finance, Legal, People Team, Inclusion and Diversity, and Global Social Impact and Sustainability.

Statutory Accounting Team in Expedia Group supports globally legal entities in each jurisdiction. We are responsible for local books maintenance, differences between US and local accounting rules, supporting external audits and producing financial statements for international entities spread all over the world. If you are interested in working with multi-cultural environment, tech company and fast paced team, you are in the right place! In statutory accounting team you will have constant contact with local accounting and tax advisors spread in LATAM/APAC (Latin America/Asia Pacific) regions. Also, many opportunities to exchange knowledge with pairs located in US and Europe. Statutory Accounting Team is responsible for complying with local accounting regulations and reviewing indirect taxes.

In this role, you will:
  • Review of Monthly Accounting package prepared by Local Bookkeepers
  • Work efficiently across functions to support local audits
  • Prepare Financial Statements according to IFRS and local accounting regulations
  • Liaison with 3rd party service providers to support local compliance requirements
  • Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Review indirect tax returns and if they are in accordance with accounting records
  • Monthly accounting closing according to corporate schedule
  • Partner with International Tax team
  • Be able to understand GAAP concepts and their effects on statutory financial results
  • Prepare statistical surveys for local entities
Experience and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • Required CRC (Brazilian Accountants Registry)
  • +5 years of related professional experience
  • Fluent in English (Spanish is desirable)
  • Ability to remain flexible in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and work efficiently across functions to resolve issues
  • Attention to detail with excellent interpersonal and time management skills
  • Knowledge in AR and AP subledger in ERP systems
  • Experience with Oracle or a similar ERP system
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, functions) as well as able to work with large amounts of data
  • Commitment to continued improvement
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
